you old cynic I'd turn out for a race with Voigt in it far more readily than anything that Team Hogstrong might be riding.
Looking forward to some upsets next season _________________ I'm just looking for one divine hammer |

So good news for a change, but some potentially bad news for Kathy and we of the moveable dish brigade.....
Giro di Sardegna returns
The Giro di Sardegna is due to return in 2009 after an absence of 12 years. The stage race will take place on the Italian island of Sardinia from February 24 to 28.
Race organisers are working on the exact stage details this week, according to Tuttosport. The stage race will attract top contenders due the region's favourable weather and the possible cancellation of the Vuelta a Valenciana. Triple Grand Tour winner Alberto Contador may include it as part of his early season preparation.
The race used to occupy a key spot in the early season calendar from 1958 to 1983. Cycling legend Eddy Merckx won the race four times. It was re-introduced briefly, 1996 and 1997. The last winner was Roberto Petito.
The Italian season will open with the Giro di Sicilia, January 30 to February 1. The GP Etruschi in Donoratico is the unofficial start of the Italian season on February 7. |

Of course they would be why not?, now that they are just over the joy of last years having being added to the pro tour. Voigt will give it a shot at least. Things can only get better for the race. _________________ It could be worse!!! |

Nothing to do with Jens, really. Just my way of taking another cynical swipe at that other "famous" old guy, riding down under, for the first time. |

Well, there is an article on one of the Spanish Websites where he says he feels like a young cyclist again _________________ "You can't win races with passion alone."

Another cyclist commits suicide
From l'Equipe:
http://www.lequipe.fr/Cyclisme/br...0104_092935_gelfi-n-est-plus.html
Luca Gelfi, aged 42, who used to ride for del Tongo, and who was second in MSR in 1993, committed suicide in his bike workshop. He also won two stages in the Giro. _________________ "You can't win races with passion alone."

| Quote: | Portugal and Spain to coordinate calendars
Spanish and Portuguese cycling will share a calendar of racing in the near future with the creation of the Copa Ibérica. In Lisbon on Friday afternoon, the Federations of both countries reached an agreement during a working meeting including Portuguese Federation (FPC) President Artur Lopes and the Spanish Federation (RFEC) President Juan Carlos Castaño according to Jornal Ciclismo.
The calendar will involve professional, Under 23 and juniors in both road and mountain bike events. Professional road teams will travel across the border to race events in both countries while the Iberian Cup for mountain biking will include both cross country and marathon events. The federations will jointly apply to host the UCI marathon world championships in 2012.
Officials are expected to adjust the dates of various events in both disciplines to foster cooperation beginning in 2009 |
interesting innititive
it really doesn't benefit iberian cycling when portugese races like algarve clash with ruta del sol or tour of portugal clashes with vuelta a burgos _________________ Hi |

| Quote: | Vanhuffel joins queue for a new team
Former Silence-Lotto stalwart Wim Vanhuffel is on the hunt for a new team after the proposed H20-Telteck squad failed to materialise. Sporza has reported that H20 had no license, because there was no bank guarantee.
Vanhuffel said that there are rumours the team had no sponsors, and despite wanting to hire riders such as himself and Jan Kuyckx – both committed themselves in the hope that the necessary funds would become available – there was no security over the team's future.
"On Boxing Day, we received an e-mail from the team. It didn't say much, except that the team wouldn't happen," said Vanhuffel. "It's finished. We are free, our contract is worth nothing," he added.
Vanhuffel explained that his own future isn't much more secure than that of the failed team, and he isn't alone in his predicament. "I still have a few issues and I've contacted some people," he said. "But I'm not alone. There are 50 Spanish riders 'on the street'. It doesn't look good. Maybe one day I'll just say that it's over." |

So-so Revolution for Becks. Beat her 200 PB at 11.82,
in finishing 3rd behind Pendleton and Blyth, but still got pipped by Varnish in their other events.
Needs to take the step past, this year, IMO.
Bit of a back problem, but that comes with the territory.
Some debate about taking her to Copenhagen. If so, she'll be the first junior, ever. |

| Still seems all very +ve to me. If you keep beating your PB's that's a good thing ... and Jess V is 2(?) years older and it makes a lot of difference at that age .... and Becks did have GF last year (and look how long the Little Prince took to get over that.) |
