| Joined a while ago - only posted recently so I think I fall into this category. The first race to get me interested in cycle racing was the Duclos-Lasalle win in Paris-Roubaix in '93 when living in the Pyrenees. I could not believe that cycling was being shown live on national TV and got hooked on the story. Then cycled around the Pyrenees. Then got hooked on Le Tour in '96 and really hooked in '98 when I recognised all the places where Marco and co. were protesting. A great spectacle but what a farce... Since then assorted rides around the UK and Belgium culminating last year in a fund raiser around the route of De Ronde. Cobbles are great, punctures are bad and wet tram tracks are the creation of the devil. Plans for the future include more Monuments and a big Alpine col before I get too old... |

Wow, he was a great cyclist and his son is pretty good too. He works for ASO, so I usually see him waiting to drive some VIP at the start or finish of the TdF.
Glad you've joined us smithy. Looking forward to seeing you making some posts soon.
I started on the BBC forum. Been watching the TdF since about 1996 on Channel 4 in the UK, but my horizons have been broadened since moving to the Netherlands in 2003 and have been to see several TdF stages and some of the Classics, mostly on mainland Europe - that's whyI love it here. So easy to see cycle races LIVE, but also european TV stations tend to have good coverage compared to the UK. _________________ "I trust no-body, not even myself" |
