One I did actually listen to yesterday. The various musical icons that died this year have gotten me wondering if they are something of their time that can never be repeated due to things like taste, consumption and media becoming more fractured and mashed up . . .

Link

Had this one on my commute a few times in the last month

Link

Not that I think its bad for things to get mashed up a bit. Wouldn't get the real Jon Snow visiting the Underground Resistance museum and a few seconds of The Final Frontier on C4 news otherwise.

2 gigs this week.

Kate tempest on Tuesday

I also read her novel earlier this year. I found it ok but i thought it was over written and could have done with some firmer editing.

The other is Margaret glaspy

This letter made me smile - a nice way to be remembered. Out of interest (well mine anyway), the Voyager spacecraft are now 19 billion and 15 billion km away.

Nice Bio.  RIP Chuck.  Couldn't resist having another peep at this clip this morning.  The glares and stares from Berry are almost as priceless as the sulk from Richards at the telling off from the headmaster...

Right indeed, Carl and Anne.  Live forever.
I really find it exciting when I rediscover some artist that I have never heard of.  But over the last decade or two I have been noting as a considerable few of the younger lads and lasses discover music that is in my bones.  They really like it.  And they learn about history.  Because, of course, many individual guitarists now spend a lot of time in their life learning to play like Chuck Berry.

Although I know it is quite normal, expected and so froth.  I really do sometimes feel a bit sad, really sad when these artists (much less my actual friends) die.  Chuck Berry was actually exceedingly cool, probably helped me understand the meaning of the word when I was young.

really liking this song

anxiously waiting for the new british sea power album (i had ordered if from their funding project)

Link

Warning for the british sea power song, it has flashing lights so any person with epilepsy should avoid

from a history point of view, i love from a name point of view that they are touring with pictish trial Very Happy
i always had the sense that the british they use in their title was the pre-ango-saxon brit (and their allies of the picts in present day scotland)

Saw Girl Band live last weekend in Limerick. Intense gig, but spoke with them briefly afterwards - totally down to earth and relaxed.

Listened to the new Future Islands whilst driving around last week.

I've posted some Jóhann Jóhannsson stuff before (in his IBM1401 guise). Liking the soundtrack for Arrival

Nice one! That's a movie I would love to see again, I must go digging.  For years I had it in my head that cybershocker Tetsuo:Iron Man influenced Akira but only now realise that it must have been the other way around, or maybe confluence, as Akira was a year before.  And light years before anything else too...

I have always had a soft spot for PJ Harvet, but Let England Shake a couple of years ago (five years, really??) was as good a Mercury Prize winner as anything.  I have had Polly's Hope Six Demolition Project on heavy rotation the last couple of weeks and it is a worthy follow up

The beeb had the Story of Funk on the other night, so of course this got an airing..

It's getting on for 20 years since I last saw Parliament/Funkadelic/George Clinton but the missus informed me that I'm bringing her to see the man himself next month when he plays Dublin.  Love, the pleasure and the privilege is mine  Very Happy

Smashing gig the other night by Cherry Glazerr who were much trashier and loud than on record.  For those of us of a certain age, Clementine would remind you a little of a youthful Beck and following a similar curve.  Anyhoo...

glad to hear that you enjoyed it, Gerry.

I did think about going to it as I've liked a couple of their songs but decided against it.

Just to finally prove that old punks simply won't fade away The Skids rocked up in town tonight and put a huge smile on the faces of a surprisingly large number of people that conveniently left their dignity and decorum at the door on the way in  Very Happy

Smashing stuff and none more smashing than...

The Youtube comment says it's one of the greatest intros ever and it isn't wrong.  The middle bit and the outro ain't too shabby either Cool

Was away last week and I just reviewed the holiday listening.  Among what was in earbud vogue in West Cork were:

Pavement - Slanted & Enchanted

Serge - Initials BB

Link

Stereo Total - Party Anticonformiste
