I think the scoring system does impact the picks - it ought to do - but at the same time it can be played for fun by just picking a favourite rider and paying little heed to how many points you might get.
There is always more kudos from bagging that unlikely winner, and we are not playing for money or anything.
Under the current system -
If you have four choices in mind when you come to the forum then naturally you will choose the one that has the fewest backers / pays better odds - that is the essence of all gambling systems.
The small problem is that there are so few backers playing the game that subsequent bets dramatically alter the odds.
We cover that by allowing players to change their picks, but that gives an advantage to those who are able to, or want to, monitor the market.
I can't see an easy way around that.
Under a points for position system -
If points are awarded based purely on position (that is like the bookies offering the same odds for every rider) then it "forces" you to select who you think is absolutely most likely to win, not who is paying the better odds at that point in time.
I'm new at this, so I don't know how the system works..... just assumed I was picking a likely winner, regardless of who else has picked them.... hence today's pick for Tom D..... happy to go with whatver system you have going, and promise to pay more attention in future!
