I think his upset was with himself because what he did first on crossing line was congratulate Sagan then vent his frustration.

beautiful, fantastic, patient and measured performance from Peter.
Great way to end the year and prove those folks who thought this course to be too much for the pure sprinters. Chapeau

Chapeau to sagan

Though a lot has to said about belgium, Italy and Norway's strategies. They were the 3 biggest teams in the group and their reward was just a bronze medal

Only one that tried a late attack was Netherlands with leezer and terpstra.

They had good sprinters  for the final but against Sagan and Cavendish, they should have maybe tried something.

I couldn't understand why Belgium took Sagan and Cavendish to the line.  You could run that sprint 100 times and Boonen would never win it!! Bonkers!

Yes, it seemed a bit daft alright but the commentators on the UCI channel (Hayles and McCrossan I think) made the point that everyone in the lead group was simply too shagged to make any kind of move.  Belgium put in a huge amount of work alright, as did the Italians, firstly to establish the gap and then to maybe try and ditch a few out of the lead group.  I don't think there could have been any other outcome really, the conditions ruled out any attacks - other than the two very late Dutch attacks.

I think it's ok saying after the event that Sagan and Cav were the strongest, but would it have been any kind of surprise if Kristoff or Viviani or GVA had been the strongest at the end ?
Ok, maybe not Viviani, but still, I don't see that it was a foregone conclusion.

I don't disagree with any of that .... but it was never going to be Boonen in that company!!!

Bonnen looked despondent on the podium (compare to Paris Roubaix, he looked happy despite second)  and I think from this reaction, maybe boonen realised too late the strategy of waiting for the sprint wasn't the best one.

Though then again the group was a fair sized group and both Cavendish and Sagan still had someone to work for them.
