The other day, I saw him again. The crank arm had fallen off my bike and I was waiting for my son to come get me. I was right near Mr Madden's house, when I saw his Ford F-150 4x4 go by. He looked a little bit animated like he was talking to somebody. I was looking with his truck, but I saw nobody. The stogie in his right hand kept moving around. I then realized he was talking on the phone.

Well, I think most us know that the players would rather be elsewhere. It is perhaps better than the old days when we used to get a pre-season game and we would maybe see whoever the starting QB was for one series or one quarter and then they would be replaced by some guy you'd never heard of and it would be all the guys battling for third string.
I don't like to stereotype but Maroney is not really doing a very good job of disproving stereotypes about sportsmen, or American parochialism.

Now I've seen Madden in several places in the USA (well it wouldn't be anywhere else) and I read that "berck" post in a different way probably.
I read exiting his Very Large RV etc, etc.
RV = Recreational Vehicle or Mobile Home that he is famous for travelling to and from the NFL games and using it as his home. 
It looks like Maroney attended to business ok 35 - 7

my tracker said in the 4th with 6 mins to go vikes 10 steelers 13 with vikes in possesion on the steelers 19 and a minute later vikes 10 steelers 20.

The wheels come off the Favre bandwagon. Fumble returned 77 yards for a TD, int when down by 3 and with a minute left - int - returned 82 yards.
However, Childress's shitty play calling meant the offense was always playing catch-up after the first few drives went 3 and out. |

The failed screen pass was a decent play call if Taylor doesn't deflect it right toward the Steeler player. He probably gets 5 to 10 yards and a first down, setting up the Vikings with 1st and goal from the 8 or 9 yard line. From there, they could have run on 1st down, down to the 5 or 4, setting up 2 chances in the endzone with 20 seconds left. Either win it or go to OT....But you can't neccessarily fault Childress for the botched execution.
This loss came down to Favre's carelessness on the fumble and Taylor's gaffe. The tripping penalty was also very suspect and totally changed the game.
I was furious at Childress for not going for it on the 4th down but after watching Pittsburgh stuff AP most of the day, I can see what he was thinking...Another issue was the clock management at the end of the 1st half when the Vikings faced 2nd and 3 with 2 minutes left they threw two successive incompletions...Shoulda been running on 2nd and 3 to burn 30 or 40 seconds, get a 1st down and ensure Pittsburgh doesn't get another possession with time to score.
Other observations:
EJ Henderson's drop of a would be interception near midfield with a minute left in the first half was a HUGE swing for Pittsburgh. With an open field in front of him, he would have run 20 or 30 yards at least, setting up the Vikings for a FG or TD before the half. Instead of trailing 10-7, the Vikings would have been leading 14 or 10-3.
The right offensive tackle(Herrara) is poorly coached...he needs to find a new stance because I can see that he is prone to losing his balance on the longer snap counts. He had 3 false starts that I saw.
Berrian is a the Vikings answer to Michael Owen. Homerun hitter who can't stay fit more than 2 or 3 games. Meanwhile, Harvin is pretty resillient and tough for a little guy. He's taken shot after shot and refuses to stay out of games.
Peterson's bulldozing hit on Gay and run after it was EPIC! Pity it didnt lead to anything greater.
Rice has developed before our eyes...amazing transformation.
I came away with the sense that the Vikings would beat Pittsburgh at least 5 out of 10 times if they played on a neutral field..I'm not too discouraged. |

Observations from week 7
1 - Miami snatches defeat from the clutches of victory. Quite impressive that NO played so poorly, on the road no less, and still won. A team to be feared.
2 - Alex Smith (SF) back from the near dead, but will it be another bit of flattery to deceive from him?
3 - Let's not kid ourselves, the oakland raiders are capable of beating many.......college teams although they'd be overmatched against Florida, Alabama, and Texas
4 - Chicago fans are wondering where the Cedric Benson they saw yesterday was all those years in Chicago.
5 - Rams and Bucs, will they so much as win a game all year?
6 - Suddenly the Giants look quite vulnerable and Arizona is starting to resemble last year's squad.
7 - Despite losing, I believe the Vikings played a more complete game than in past weeks when they've won. They beat SF and Baltimore by sheer luck, whereas yesterday they were the better team but made too many mistakes. |

Well, that maybe true. Although, I just saw him about two or three weeks ago. I suspect he isn't traveling as much now that he's retired. The other time he almost ran into me, I believe, was during the NFL off season. |

Texan player were quoted after the game....they did not even know who Alex Smith was....ouch! Niners have no O-line....Smith will be lucky to survive the rest of the year...even though he has Crabtree and Davis.

Have you changed your clocks yet. ??
Europe did last weekend and I'm getting Eastern as 10.30am and Pacific as 7.30am.
That would answer why my recorder missed the first hour of the Giants game because we had BBC highlights of the Wembly game.
Edit, I see google has "Now" got Eastern Standard as 5 hours behind Greenwich again but what a shame that, no Sunday Night Game.

Colts and Saints last two undefeated teams.
Minnesota looked pretty good beating GB.
Ravens looking pretty tough again, gave poor playing Denver their first loss.
Giants stank it up bad.
If St. Louis and Oakland can win a game, Tampa should be able to.

HA!...seriously!! That was extremely painful to watch....spread offense too much for the young Trojan D. Oregon is quite good. They are gonna pound the crap out of Iowa in the Rose Bowl.....and SC can still beat sad Oakland (smile)
I love the new Stanford stadium...have fun at the game!

Week 10 in the NFL...The Season is flying along.
Sometimes, we over-hype the so-called "Big Games" and put more stock in them than we should. When you really think about it, all games in a 16 week schedule are huge and something I've noticed during the run by the Patriots and Colts....they are impecccable when it comes to disposing of teams they should and they normally run up the score in winning.
With that in mind, I'll be watching closely how Minnesota and New Orleans fare today against Detroit and St.Louis respectively. Anything less than a 3 score win for either team would sound some alarm bells for me.
The Saints have flirted with disaster against lesser teams but have been saved by defensive TD's in 4 games now. The Vikings have played a much tougher schedule and have also played close games. The battle for homefield advantage can be won or lost on a day like today...No time for a slip now.
Elsewhere, should be a great game in Lambeau, where the Cowboys won a year ago.
Got a gut feeling that Redskins will get well today at home.
Also looking for an upset in the Jets/Jags game.

The Vikes have a history of being horrible against the Lions. This is the sort of banana skin that the Vikes have tripped up on in recent years. |

Some very fearless predictions there, Smarauder! 
Couple of interesting match-ups:
Patriots at the Colts....was at the Wembley game a few weeks back, not a great game really (too one-sided) but a good show nonetheless. Not yet convinced that Brady is back to his best, but this should be a real test of both teams credentials.
Bengals at the Steelers should be huge. The Steelers beginning to look like the Superbowl champions again. Is Chad Johnston (sorry, Ochocinco) for real? Funniest story of the week was his $20,000 fine for being a clever dick!
