sometimes you have to buy a pop cd, yesterday i got "she wolf" by shakira. as anyone who has looked at the books thread knows this, i have an extreme weakness for south americans. i do like shakira, her songs on the "love in the time of cholera" soundtrack were excellent (she's a friend of the greatest writer/Colombian, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and that was why she featured on the soundtrack). good album.

anyway, i also got tickets for Cass McCombs on the 3rd of December

one of the forums i'm cheating with you's with (hey it's not real cheating as you are the only cycling forum) had a thread about beautiful songs. this is my selection

Quote:
mew -
she came home for christmas

michael franti & spearhead - hey world (don't give up)
sussanna & the magical orchestra - believer

feist - one evening

god help the girl - god help the girl

flaming lips - yoshimi battles the pink robots

real tuesday weld - the ugly and the beautiful

gemma hayes - Back of the hand

belle & sebastian - if she wants me

hope of the states - enemies/friends

spiritualised - stop your crying

i'm sure my choice of mew first has nothing to do with tomorrow night

also could someone tell me what is meant by beautiful. this song is about what beautiful means to these particular guys
scroobius pip v dan le sac - tommy c

Spamming salesmen are popping up everywhere Wink

Anyway, shouldn't you be hyperlinking this nugget in pages of drivel?

i'm not entirely sure how this hyperlinking of which you speak works. Wink

had to listen to something round and vinyl-ly to get the valves and amps to warm the place up. tonight have succumbed, and lit a fire. quite late in the year, really. swept the chimbley and got the fire cement out a month or so ago Cool

steve earle was good at the sage (NewcastleGateshead - that great northern city with two capitals and no bloody hyphen) the other night. i'd never seen him live before, and for one medium-sized bloke to hold that size of hall for over two hours is bloody impressive.

it's daniel johnston and laura marling in the small room with better (imo) sound tomorrow. which i'm trying to convince myself i could afford. jimmy webb in the big room at the same time which would be ok too.

Well the hyperlinking was a good effort, but you've not got the hang of the surrounding drivel yet. I had been thinking of going to see Steve Earle in Coventry, but it slipped away for some reason. Mind you my exposure to him has been limited to his role as Bubble's sponsor in the The Wire and the Season 5 theme tune

Was supposed to go see Daniel Johnston years ago in the Barbican - an evening organised in his honour by Jason Pierce and Mark Linkous, but he had one of his bad spells and it was cancelled, so he's one that got away. I know I'm double posting, but if Nolte can get away with Happy Frogs twice then so can I Wink

shh. i tivo'd it from the beeb earlier in the year, got up the beginning of series three, and saved the rest for dark winter nights when there's no cycling. like now. Wink

he played the theme to rapturous acclaim near the end. me dad didn't notice it as he's not bothered watching the wire. fool. he's seen him plenty of times before too.

me, i'm a bit of a sucker for gram and emmylou style boy-girl singalongy things. like this one that he didn't play, and the toob's purged the original of.

Nah - still too interesting.

Turns out I got my dates and places all wrong too. I juxtaposed Steve Earle and Seasick Steve, Birmingham and Coventry, the gig's tonight and I've been on a plane. The pilot suggested that we look out the window at the Guy Fawkes fireworks down below. When we landed one of the overseas passengers (as if I'm local Wink) asked what Guy Fawkes was about, and the steward explained that it was to celebrate blowing up parliament Laughing

seasick steve was in the same hotel as mr earle were playing on the same night. anyway, it's winter and there's small houses to be warmed with stupidly loud amplification.
