Great time, but are you doing recovery rides? Sounds like you are pushing all the time.

Yea I'm doing recovery work (not just rides). Stinks getting old, tell me about it, in 2 months I'm going to be a senior No more wins for a long time I reckon. That time I did is actually poor. PB is 1.04.22 so I'm a minute and a half outside it and I want to get under the hour so I have a long way to go. _________________ www.stirlingbikeclub.org.uk |

patience Ralph, you'll get under the hour within a year or so.
Also get some road races in you!! You'll improve faster. _________________ Porridge makes you go faster |

Did a 1.09 today. That climb is much longer than I thought and got lupmy at the top. Had a right ol' ding dong battle with number 2, i was number 1 He caught and passed me, i repassed him about a mile later, he then went straight back passed me, i retook him after another 2 miles then he attacked and got away Number 4 came passed me with about a mile to go but I hung on and jumped him from about 20m back in the sprint and got him with a lunge on the line Had no idea where I'd come from _________________ www.stirlingbikeclub.org.uk |

300+ miles this week, but mostly recovery from three hard effort days. Easy week coming up with my first race since May, a criterium on Saturday. Managed to ride a 26-7 mph average for 30 minutes yesterday in the pack with a final sprint at 34-5 mph for 200m. Feeling good. _________________ END THE MADNESS

Is it a "long" break"? I am now trying to peak every 6-8 weeks for 1-2 weeks of top form racing. It's been about six weeks since my last race. Have also decided to start training for a sprint triathlon (14-mile swim, 10-mile bike, 5K run), so that complicates things a bit. You can't peak as much when you're over 40, cyclingtv. I've only been riding three years after a 25-year break. _________________ END THE MADNESS

Dangerous crit course yesterday! Three 90-degree right turns, one into a downhill and another coming off that hill, several defects in the road at all the wrong places--holes, ridges, breaks, sand and off-cambre turns.
Was going really well until about halfway through when I lost about 30 lbs. pressure from my rear tire. Fishtailed badly twice and almost took out another rider the second time with 8 laps to go. So decided to go to neutral support (SRAM/Zipp guy) for a rear wheel swap. That broke my rhythm and then they didn't push me off until the group whizzed past, so it took a lot of work to latch back on. Then I had to recover, so no real rest break.
The next 6 laps I fought hard for position and managed to get near the front for the final lap, taking the inside up a short climb and passing 20 riders in a hurry. Around 90-degree turn #1 at the top of that climb, CRASH right in front of me! That split the field and about 15 guys were ahead of me. Managed to pick a couple off around the next two turns, but the top ten had a huge gap! Around the final curve into the straightaway, I managed to move up one place by powering past one more guy, who I nipped at the line. My final sprint speed was 35.5 mph, so I was very happy with that since it was a slight uphill.
But then I found out the SRAM/Zipp guy said there was no defect with my wheel and they relegated me from 12th to last place! Not the result I had in mind! Protest useless at that point.
But one of the guys from my club who was being talked up before the race either got dropped badly or was a DNF. My friend Ben and I made it our goal to beat him. He was already dressed when we rode past during our cool-down lap, so we met our goal as fastest Cat 4's in the club, for whatever that was worth (not much).
All in all, happy with my performance, since we had a lot of 30+ mph surges that didn't destroy me like last year and even last spring. Hoping to race again in two weeks. Need a win or podium; gettin' closer. _________________ END THE MADNESS

Didn't they think it strange that you were 30psi shy of a full tyre? |

cape.. great recap thanks.. well done anyways.. maybe next time..
you finished right up there even with the problems.. be proud..
quite alert of you.. keeping your head up and avoiding that crash..
the tire bit.. in hindsight you could have ridden on it until flat..
the cost.. marring up your rims unless you were on tubes..
you're getting more and more competitive.. big surprise |

Apparently not. They cited "the rules". I didn't care anymore at that point. Had a good day. _________________ END THE MADNESS

No way I would have ridden that tire any longer. Yeah they were tubs, but with the sharp corners it would have been a disaster. Next time... _________________ END THE MADNESS

70 miles today in 4 hours. Had steady drizzle most of the way round but picked up slightly towards the end. It was very hard, my thighs were killing me and I could barely stand at the end of it. Thanks God for Aero Bubbles!!
