Thx Huw.

Stage 7 looks made for JRod ... unless the diesels push hard and early ....
Giro 2012: The Antipasti Stages-May 9th-12th.
Crikey stage 5 might even make some of the riders fall asleep too!!

I know the Romans were very good at building straight roads, but thats 150km straight line with almost ruler precision!

looking forwards to the weekend.. and gl to Phinney - i assume he'll be quite sore during tomorrow's travelling day. At least he can get full team support in the TTT.

Katusha went quite well - and Lampre even better!

Ktusha now finished ahead of Lampre-Got that the wrong way round
Giro 2012: The Antipasti Stages-May 9th-12th.
Garmin through the first check fastest - and you'd expect them to win today. If they do, they could take the pink jersey - but for who? Rasmussen is their top-placed rider.... but struggling.

Bobridge also struggling for GreenEdge.
Giro 2012: The Antipasti Stages-May 9th-12th.
Purito the major winner from today. Gadret/Dupont/Nieve and Rujano big, big losers.
The rest all huddled together.
Phinney off the road...............yet again.
Battled well, though.

Navardauskas it would seem.

Katusha will be laughing. Very good result today. Don't know if I'm getting mixed up but I think I remember Rodriguez loosing a packet in Turin last year.

Looked it up. Lost 35 to 40 seconds on the original podium trio. Effectively a minute better this year.

good performance by katusha today. must say the top 5 was very much unexpected teams to be there although unfortunately OPQS could not find an additional few seconds Sad oh well

the top 12 all finished reasonably close together.

i guess Nieve should really turn his attentions to the mountains jersey i think Very Happy

What I don't really understand is why this was after the rest day? Couldn't they have done the transfer Monday evening/night, then have this on Tuesday as it's quite a late start?

It was to give Stephen Roche time to check that all their zips were working Wink

Interesting for J-Rod.. but i'm looking at Ballan, Visconti and Cataldo quite reasonably placed in under 1min on GC... some names to ruffle some feathers on the weekend's first hilly stage?

Poor showing from Rabobank surprisingly - considering they have a few of their TT specialists in their Giro lineup.

Pozzovivo @ 1m from Kreuziger at this stage. It's a good place for RK to be in, but if a guy like Pozzovivo goes early on Stelvio or Giau.. i think the time gaps will be significantly more.

ES Spain had an interview with Alvaro (brother of Igor) Gonzalez de Galdeano after the stage.  He sounded rather distraught about EE's performance, but apparently Txurruka had had a problem, a puncture, and then a fall, or it might have been the same incident.  But I got the impression this happened early in the stage, and I thought they lost most of the time in the second half!

Ryanair flight schedules at awkward times? Wink

I suppose those with the battered bodies were grateful of the rest and I guess it comes down to Verona having paid for a rest day.

Poor Phinney - impressive off roading given he was on a TT bike. At least he didn't have to contend with a farmer with a shotgun telling him to get off his land. Himself and la Famiglia have come across well on TV (they speak Italian well) and I liked his mum showing how she was jumping up and down when he won the opener. He seemed to be enjoying himself too and respected his 'duties'/ the race etc. by hobbling up on to the podium on Monday.

Stage 5 is on.
If you look very closely, you can see the paint on the road's white line drying..............

On PL Eurosport they're discussing the weather and Agnieszka Radwańska (top Polish tennis player).

Ooh a bridge. It's almost like a hill.
