My Arione is leather covered (it said on the packaging and it looks like suede in the middle, leather outside) and I wouldn't worry about it getting wet. As long as it dries naturally it won't crack, shrink or rot will it?

I doubt it mowcopmick...I wouldnt worry bout it at all. I just dry mine off with a paper towel after a wet ride...and clean the undeath well too.
My Aliante saddles are covered with microtex, which is simply not thick enough, so it scuffs easy...I love fizik saddles, but they could use a kevlar cloth round the edges and slightly higher plastic guards. I have an old flight saddle, thats gone through the mill, and its still perfect.

I've never tried the saddles with the hole down the middle. I've been told that they are comfortable. I used to have issues in the past, but I learned to rotate my hips slightly towards the back of the bike and less pressure is excerted on the sensitive areas. |
I use a Concor lite, San Marco (as used by Armstrong). The pelvic bones have to rest on the raised part of the saddle and stay there. In a way it's like a noseless saddle but the nose helps to stay centred. I tend to slide forward if I'm using too high a gear and so slip onto the nose to put more weight on the pedal. |

think I might have to try one of those - I'm in alot of discomfort on a ride longer than 3 hours.
Trouble with choosing a saddle that suits your own particular bum is that they're an expensive item and you can't know you've made a bad choice till it's too late. _________________ This old world keeps spinnin' round, it's a wonder tall trees ain't layin' down |

You might struggle to get a new one, not sure if they are still in production ?
If they are good enough for Hinault, Indurain and me, you really need to track one down ?
e-bay perhaps ? |

| Worn out the leather on my Arione on the nose. I replaced it with a newer Arione Braided Carbon version. Its 50g lighter and feels the same. |

I gotta give props to the old school saddles.
I use a Selle San Marco Regal. I have not been able to find a newer, lighter saddle that is as comfortable for 5+ hours.
I think a lot of the newer saddles are designed primarily for weight and looks without any thought of comfort. _________________ "Listen, my son. Trust no one! You can count on no one but yourself. ok, so I need to track one down second hand.
I inherited me dad's old Brooks Proffesional and even wondered about trying that, but it weighs a bloody ton. _________________ This old world keeps spinnin' round, it's a wonder tall trees ain't layin' down |

there were new old stock turbos out there on ebay when i last looked a couple of months back...
don't buy white ones, unless you just want to be trendy. they don't wear as well as a gentleman's saddle should. although they still work.
sheep, i'd try the brooks pro first if i were you. i'd never ridden a proper leather saddle until this year, and the knackered turbo's only back on the orange bike because i couldn't get the leather one far enough back on the orange bike's seatpin. hang the weight. riding's supposed to be fun _________________ ...on the one hand, we were serious political revolutionaries who wanted to overthrow the government. on the other hand, we were on acid... |

For those of you interested in 'old school' saddles, I have a white (perforated leather) Cinelli which is very similar to the old Concor; and a grey (yes grey) Concor light. Both very good condition. First to PM me can have them.
the only reason I have them is that it took me a long time to source a white Concor Supercorsa which is what I really wanted. |
