Dumoulin hammers a nail into each of the mountain goat's coffins.
Quintana needs to put on a dozen kilos, obviously. Laughing

See what happens when we go over the 2000 metres mark, but I think the race needs somebody else beside the Colombian to make a difference.

Good racing up that hill.  A few surprises, which we always like.

Dumoulin now adds himself to the guys who can take jersey, win a TT and win a mountain stage.  Quintana is going to have to do a feat to beat him.  But the others were not totally whipped, so we can still hope for more changes and surprises.  Lovely last bit.

the last 15ks yesterday were thoroughly enjoyable (while watching the last 5 minutes of the Hockey semi between Canada and Russia)  Dumoulin did that just right, week three will be different, Tuesday especially but he's looking good right now.
What the score with Nibs?? He doesn't seem on the ball at all this year, even my last week hedge bet of a major turn of form is looking doubtful....as Huw says someone of that calibre beside Quintana needs to be there but I don;t see either Nibali or Pinot reaching that level. On balance it's been a good Giro so far

I was thinking this morning that Rolland would be trying again.  Funny that.
Such a really excellent mediocre rider.

What a Giro for Quick Step, and a well-deserved win for Jungels.  Nice six second bonus for Quintana too, which was a surprise as I thought Dumoulin might have been in for a shout for the stage himself but he seemed to shut down a bit with 200m to go and took his eye off the ball.

Fast stage, so much for letting the break go before the rest day  Laughing

Nibali floats to the back to check whose there then almost gets dropped and hast to fight tooth and nail to get back on ..

I wonder if dumoulin had some sort of mechanical problem in the final, gearing or slow puncture?

It did seem like something that would have suited him.

Just watched the recording.
An absolutely bonkers stage.
Quite the spectacular last 50kms, which Eurosport did their best to spoil.
I had a feeling that someone like Jungels could and should go after the stage win.
Not sure What Nibali was about. A fair bit of wasted effort chasing a win, for someone expected to aiming for the podium.

Kangert with a broken elbow after that airborn crash.
Obviously, he has had to abandon.
