looking at a little of the women's race, 2 US women going back for bottles at the same time. they are speculating it might be all amber neben will do today, go back for bottles and bring them up, go back again, bring them up.

though i am thinking it might be a problem for the smaller teams, keeping hydrated tomorrow as they don't have the same number of riders to sacrifice in collecting bottles

hopefully this will be over by half 2. need to go at 40km/h for that to happen.

1:15 between group 1 and group 2. belgians going hard.

bad crash for durbridge and mezgec (i don't know mezgec looks like he broke his leg as he crawled). Durbridge seemed to have stopped or was stopping and gaviria hit him.

gaviria stopped on the side of the road now

It's looking more interesting than I expected, but I have a pass to go cycling and having missed out last two weekends due to holidays I take my chance . . .

Still over a minute to the second group - the Germans can't be happy!  Looks like Bouhanni has won the French argument.

it has gone out to 1:26 for the second group, though not particularly working hard as the moroccan from the early break is still in the lead group. what riders have been attacking from the second group, belgium stays on the wheels of them kind of like valverde on that stage in the vuelta this year

Yes, they just burnt themselves out by working too hard before they got to the desert but the strong riders they lost like Thomas, Rowe and standard, that was just bad tactics though they still have Cavendish and Blythe up there

Nice tense dynamic in that front group.  Someone will have to make a break for it at some stage - Terpstra?

Maybe terpstra, van avermaet, bennati and boassen Hagen  for an attack.

Back for last lap. Surprised that Cavendish got back on the lead group. Greipel's expression says a lot as he crosses the line.

What a rider Sagan is!  He was an outstanding champion last year and his reign of terror continues Very Happy

Cavendish made a sack of it, plain and simple so should just get over it.  He and Blythe spent enough time covered up in the latter stages to get the plan right, so he can't really complain too much.

Delighted to see old man river take a bronze as well.  Not a bad year all told for him and Fab Can.

What an amount of work Styven and Bennati did, too.  In that heat it was some shift to put in.

Sagan is a monster though, and we can only look forward to him wearing the stripes like a genuine champion again next year
