At a guess today will be raced hard to put Contador under pressure?

Have enjoyed the last two days even if they were fairly inconsequential from a GC point of view - injuries excepted.

Another day  without FP points as breakaway looks to stay away with 10minute lead and 30km left.

When quintana attacked froome, did froome drop his chain prior to that?

I didn't see the final kms as the weather took out my sat dish.Mad

And viola, Chaves blows up.
Stupid stage design ends with a few surprises.
Froome makes a balls of it.
Broken Bertie rides uphill faster than a fit Bertie.
Pardilla still in Burgos mode.

Tomorrow and Monday will be a truer test.

Pretty much

There were more riders from 12 - 50th on the stage than seconds separating 12th and 50th

It didn't look like today was going to the breakaway, but now, with 30kms to go, they have 5 minutes, as the peloton cruised up the penultimate climb.

If this final climb was a Hollywood script, it would be rejected for being too outlandish!

Froome dead then flying.. let the clinic sort that one out...

Quintana and Bertie traded some blows, but then just at tempo until they knew Froomey had found his motor.

Nice one though..everyone for themselves, Gesink especially left sweat blood and tears on the road.

Singling out Froome for the snide, doping remarks again?
Juan Antonio Flecha answered that one: he's working with what form and conditioning he's got left
Don't worry, at best he will finish a distant second.
Depends upon how well Valverde goes in his eighth and ninth GT weeks.
His tank never seems to run dry.

Well, I for one enjoyed that. A cracking stage.
Ride of the day for me was Omar Fraile.
He did what Froome did and then some.

Quintana has it, the rest don't.

It goes back to what I said last week about the psychological conditioning of sky that they can keep calm and composed, not panicking when looking like they were under pressure

Racing by numbers ... and on this occasion it proved exciting.

I hadn't noticed on viewing this afternoon, but Scarponi was another one flying the flag for the old guard.

Yep he should be on a beach somewhere taking a rest. Instead he's here making everyone except Quintana look like neo-pro's.

Much though I don't like (and don't believe in) Froome ... I think the real story from 2016 is Valverde's ability to be competitive in three GTs.  Given he has never really been a GT 'star' in the same sense as Bertie, Froome, Nibali etc .... its pretty staggering that he can maintain 'podium' level in all three (so far).  Suggests that (i) he might have wine more GTs if he could 'peak' like the rest. (ii) he has a different metal/physical make up from most GT riders or (iii) he's on some sort of programme (legal or otherwise) to maintain his level.  FWIW - I think the Quintana is suspect too.
