There will surely be spills on the descent...

Not the normal, straight road up to Samoens.
Pantano has been the descending revelation of the Tour.

Have to admit that Pantano and Alaphillippe both look seriously steady and relaxed on their bike going down ink the rain.  Very impressive.  Since the are both on my Velogames team I sure hope they finish well.  Or at least do a fine descent with no crashes.  So far they all seem to be doing well.

I guess we already knew about Alaphilippe.
It's amazing to see the difference in speed, even on what look like straight sections.

Pantano surely riding on to nice contract at a big team?  If Izaguirre takes this it leaves just Italy as the traditional big countries without a stage...

Just imagine if someone attacked out the GC group on the final day, eh?

I'd like to see Alaphilippe take on Nibali on the descent.

The mentality of places 2-8 being exposed.
Nothing to do with Sky, this lack of intent.

If Purito can take out 40" in a couple of km then they aren't going full whack.

Izaguirre's descent a thing of beauty.
Nibali's uncharacteristically, not so much.
What a bunch of GC tossers.
A bunch Piti type sprint is all they could muster.

I agree, but only to a certain extent.  Yes, there is a resounding lack of ambition in the GC, but is it not down to an expectation and certain knowledge that any meaningful attack will be closed down by a team that are simply far too strong?  Sky and Froome could have probably got much the same result riding with a six man team - that's how much stronger they were.

Froome was utterly dominant, his team were always in total control, and the classifications were all well and truly over before this way over-hyped final week.  This GT was as forgettable as Euro 2016 (unless of course you were Welsh and had a soft spot for Froome and Sky Very Happy  Wink) and I feel like I been in a sporting sleepwalk for the last 5 weeks.

Seriously, well done to Froome and Sky for a perfectly executed victory, but as a GC contest it was a non-event.

Too bad it was wet.  Nibali, Alaphilippe, Pantano, and now Izaguirre, it would have been a fun to watch.  Clearly today either Nibali was wanted or he didn't care too much to take a chance before the Olympics.   Izaguiirre was willing to raik it, him being on the Spanish team, and Alaphillippe, on the French team, but not Nibali.  Probably a wise decision for Nibali as he is ending his career soon enough and this Olympics is maybe his last chance, since the parcours suits him..

But it would have been a fine contest!

Not just Wales, but how about Iceland.   Rolling Eyes

I must reflect a bit, but I don't see it as that bad.  Having said that, the good bits were usually at the end, of each stage.  Sometimes it seemed there was a rule against long distance attacks by GC guys.  Except maybe Bardet, at least once.
