I could not have put it better.  Good race when you can be happy who won, sad about who lost and recognise you just saw a pretty damn good race.  I think I know the best stage race of the year already.

Would it not be totally excellent if I were wrong and there will be another stage race that is as good.  Could not really be better, could it?

IMO the best race this century.
I didn't think he could do that again as it looked to me as he had emptied the tank yesterday and riden the last kilometers on Guts with mind over matter or Pain.
Having had a thorough medical he knew his body was good enough to take the pain.
Today he went out and repeated the dose all over again.

My only complaint is that Vinokourov is involved.

Viva Vincenzo Nibali

Viva Vincenzo Nibali

IMO the race was won last saturday when Nibali fought for every second and lost only 37s IIRC to K, Chavez and the two guys in the break.  Now that was gutsy riding.

I can see the appeal of a new guard, but lets be fair, on paper neither of them should have been anywhere near Nibali in the race for the maglia rosa.  But credit where credit is due ...

On FB I see that Chavez's parents sought Nibs out to hug him before their lad had finished.  Now that really is classy.  Chapeau Mr & Mrs Chavez!!

Nibs made about 3 hugs with his mom, clearly wanted to apologize for being just too damn good  Laughing

Brilliant !
All things considered the best GT for quite a while (although I do think the Vueltas position in the calendar counts against it in that regard).

I'll have to start rating Nibali up there alongside Contador Wink

I was saddened to hear SK interview this morning - where he admitted it was a simple mistake on his part (eating/drinking/not concentrating).
Like most on here, no bitterness to the other riders for taking advantage.
But a harsh lesson to take forward for the rest of his career.

Finally, I am surprised that Orica didn't do anything to counter the likes of Kangert going up the road. We all knew what Astana would do, and pretty much where they would do it. Why don't Orica send half their own team up the road and to hell with pacing the peloton ?
In the end I don't think it was crucial, but it could have been.

Now a Nibali with no pressure in the TdF ... now that might be interesting Wink

I'll stick Nibali's goodnight tweet here for Bart.

"It's time to sleep. Before turning off the light one last look at the pink."

Where the hell is Kangert

Up the road, hanging about at just the right place and what a great place.
Just where he was needed as Valverde and Uran were only 9 seconds behind Nibali at the finish line, having had big help from Giovanni Visconti.

That said, for me his bravery, skill and ability to exploit others mistakes slots him above Froome and below Quintana in the GT champion hierarchy.

FFS ... Quintana has only one one GT and that was when no one of significance was riding.  Aru was a kid and Uran has never been a serious GT contender IMO.

They must mean when Quintana exploited the mistake Uran made by following the red flag on the Stelvio.  The flags that Movistar conveniently didn't see... Wink

Yup ... I forgot about that.  So this GT superstar - better than Nibali, better than Froome - cheated his way to his only GT win!!! The mind boggles ...

Comments were more telling of opinion than the article for me and yes to put Quintana above Nibali (despite not being a fan of Lo Squalo) is incredulous. Deciding the pecking order of current GT superstars is a very subjective task so what ever I say is the order you would say different as would the next person.... we all have our own opinions!!

Surely the number of wins counts first:

Contador - Nibali - Froome - Quintana

Nice to hear a few more tidbits that suggest what happened over the final two mountain days wasn't just lady luck.

Still think Landa would have won
