My highlight of the day was the 'Erdogan is a goat fucker' painted on the road (in Dutch) in rather big letters. 11.7km to go for leaders if you feel the need to rewind.

I was glad the Kruijswijk special bike paintjob was left behind at the photo shoot. It's a mess in my opinion. I thought Sunday's black effort was very understated and classy and offset the pink nicely. Turned out it was a simple lightweight paint so he could have aero bars and still threaten the weight limit. The bars may have been responsible for the rapid time advantage he built as he gained all of his time on Chaves in the opening few shallow km, before it steepened up and they effectively drew the remainder of the ITT.

In the absence of a winter trivia quiz in May (and apologies for going all RAI and seeking out a Pantani angle), but is this the first time that Bianchi have been in pink since those days? I don't know the answer and it's more fun to ask here instead of Google.

Dombrowski was definitely not ordered back today. He got gapped and couldn't get back on. His anger was at himself.

Thanks bio, I made out the erdogan part but wasn't sure about the rest Smile

Good day of racing. I was watching the highlights, hoping upon hope that chaves could get back to kruswijk. A great performance by him to limit the time losses while valverde, zakarin and kruijswijk all rode well together to do so.

Chaves could have used the power his 4 companions had saved for the sprint for fourth place Wink jungles though did show great determination in working hard and help chaves.

Great stage.................thanks to Nibali having pretty awful form.
He'll keep attacking, hoping he finds it, until there is no race left.

I go with a mix of all three - unfortunately!!

Hadn't spotted last night the Italian media stuff had been helpfully summarised already.

I'm sure Slapshot will be along with the correct answer, or better still, Bartali will arrive on the actual bike Wink but I will hazard a guess that the last Bianchi MR was Silvio Martinelli for a few days in 1996

But Pantani was 98 (and probably 99 if I checked what he was riding)?

Apparently the last Bianchi to have a rider in pink was Di Luca.
I'll leave you to your own decision as to whether that counts.

It counts as much as Pantani I guess. I suppose the get out clause is that it's not the bike that's doped. Until they find a motor anyway Wink

Yes, looks like Di Luca in 2005.  I saw something mentioned about 10 years so I immediately Googled 1996 as you would if you were preoccupied with a silage cut  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes  Laughing

After yesterdays 3 hour sprint, today looks to be more of a rest day.

Daniel Oss (BMC)  Very Happy
Eugert Zhupa (Wilier Triestina-Southeast)
Pavel Brutt (Tinkoff)

have a couple of minutes.

Well I'm thoroughly enjoying another Giro d'Italia but this year there are so many twists going on and I have completely misread the form of Nibali.  Crying or Very sad
However there is so much New talent coming through to show the old adage that it is the riders that make a race interesting and I love all the days in the Dolomites for scenery.
Today they stroll across the Lombardy flat lands on their way to the Alps.

A further thought that Nibali did the Giro this year with Fabio Aru doing the TDF so the question is :- are Astana having a good year. ????

A further 3 riders escaped after the second intermediate sprint.
Naturally this shredded the lead of the initial trio.

Lars Bak (Lotto Soudal)
Ignatas Konovalovas (FDJ)
Maxim Belkov (Katusha)

have caught the original break.
Peloton only 20 seconds or so behind.
22km remain.

7 Treks on the front are losing ground to the 6 breakaways.
27 seconds with 17km to go.

8 seconds, 3.5km.
I think they have had it unless someone makes a break.
