I think today's Tour of Turkey stage was perhaps the most boring flat stage run in I have ever seen. Maybe it was a bit more exciting when the echelons were forming.

I did find myself compelled to watch though to see if the Etix trait of conspiring to lose stages might be catching amongst Belgian teams.

Good end to the stage into Scarborough.
Nice to see them on roads that I vaguely recognise, although they do get from one end to the other a lot faster than I ever did as a boy.

Thomas Voeckler takes the stage and GC.
Don't know what Roche was doing, totally missed TV getting the jump on him.

Maybe Roche was distracted by Kirby's moronic commentary coming through his earpiece.  I know I was...

I suppose it's not really a surprise on a quick tricky course, for a bike handler who is used to short sharp sprints to better a TT rider who is used to the big gears with his head down.  Rolling Eyes

Just in case you were not looking carefully, the top country in the UCI rankings, officially and factually, is …. music ...

Watching highlights of the aviva women's tour, that was a tight finish with the pack closing in but the cars and motorbikes still between tetrick and maderus/vos et al on those narrow streets at the finish

The headline got me excited, the story made me think that with 75km to go  it will make no difference to the race and it's more about privatising the Muur and selling more VIP packages.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/m...eturns-for-2017-tour-of-flanders/

I don't mind then trying to make money and stay afloat (especially as a counter weight to ASO), but this one seems cynical rather than sporting.

this is of interest

Quote:

As for WorldTour teams, there will be 17 teams next year and each will be granted a two-year licence for 2017 and 2018, but the goal is to reduce the number of teams to 16 a year later, and for it to be set at 16 teams for 2019 and beyond.

The UCI described how the new WorldTour system will work in its statement, which read, “From the end of the 2018 season onwards, there will be an annual challenge system, based on an overall annual sporting classification, between the last ranked UCI WorldTeam and the top Pro Continental Team to enter as a UCI WorldTeam in the following season.

“In the event that a UCI WorldTeam drops out of the top tier, that team will have the right to participate in all the following season’s UCI WorldTour events, meaning that UCI WorldTeams will have stability for the three seasons 2017 to 2019.”

i was reading that bora were looking at applying for a worldtour licence so i guess unless there is another team folding i am forgetting about, ts to them

Pinot wins the slightly hilly ITT national championship, and will wear the sacred jersey in the Tour.

No, it's Oudenaarde that has now been built as the "Money making capital of RVV" and the Muur is but a token move to acknowledge the history of the race.
They started this promotion of Oudenaarde with a little property and some Pave blocks with some posters, when Oudenaarde was a place RVV passed through between the Molenberg climb and the Kluisbergen then on to the Cote de Trieu (or Flemish Knokteberg) but (having passed by within a half Km of the Koppenberg)
Then instead of going straight through Oudenaarde they deviated a route into the town when beforehand it had been a feeding zone along the river side before the real selection started.

Saturday (the eve of RVV) was a pleasant time to ride around the RVV and wave or chat with local clubmen but the racing culture brought the masses and that meant Gridlock. The present course means less rushing about for them and is inevitable to have a circuit finish.

When I first went over it started in Gent and finished just outside at Gentbrugge.

Must say that the management has done well to keep this team through so many short term sponsors

There was shimano, skil, the dundalk argos, currently giant-alpecin and now in 2017 sunweb

Should have gone with your gut. Mollema attacks over the top of the last climb gets a small gap and the chase group of Gallopin, Valverde and Rodriguez are wary of towing each other to the line.
