yeah i was just guessing

i know magni was booed but that was for different reasons.
1) - err, wwII stuff
2) - coppi fans weren't happy with the low penalty magni had receieved for being towed up the mountains.

i remember about the organisers changing the format of the giro to a team ranking in 1912 because of the domination carlo galetti in the previous two years.

so my fourth guess on this is carlo galetti in the 1911 giro d'italia.

fI knew that wasn't right because a Pole has never won a GT.  They are, However, the first non-French winners of various races,  I think

No,  they all won the first edition of various races!  Do you need to know which races?   Laughing  Laughing

I like that question.  It has a certain style, and one can answer it.

I read this thread always, but just don't seem to post answers or questions much.  But do keep it up.  I will try to participate more.  Good training, of a certain sort.

Merci.

That's makes sense. I have to admit that I got to their first race they won on foreign soil and called it because your list was so large. Smile

I'll come back with another question later.

Bike companies dominated the sponsorship of bicycle teams for years. This all changed with UCI teams some time after WWII.

What year did the first non bike company sponsorship show up in the UCI races?
Who was the rider responsible for gaining the sponsorship?
What was this sponsors product, and how did it relate to cycling?

I've now got two answers.

But I think what you're talking about is 1954, when Nivea sponsored Magni's team because the cyclists had been using Nivea Cream to soften the chamois in their shorts (the mind boggles!)
