Here you go folks,  Rolling Eyes They are not open to discussion I'm afraid!

(1) Please Treat Posters with Respect and Courtesy:
Argument and debate are part of the basic concepts of discussion forums however Site Admin would ask you use your common sense in discussions, treat others as you would wish to be treated.
Any posts that start one of our regular and abusive arguments will be moved to the "Members Only" forum. This forum will not be monitored.

(2) No Plagiarism:
Do not post personal images, unless you have permission to do so. Any illegal posts referred back to the Site Admin will be checked, investigated and if necessary deleted. Should any Forum Member consistently indulge in such practises their membership will be reviewed.

(3) No Large Pictures in Signatures:
A few words are fine, or an image no greater than 90 x 90 pixels in size.

(4) Admin and Moderator jobs:
Please do not ask to be an Admin or Mod if and when we need to recruit someone we will let you know.

(5) No Piracy*:
You must not post links to illegal downloads or copyrighted material such as movies and music.

(6) Keep it legal**:
With all forums we are held responsible for all posts so please beware and think before you post.

(7) No Trolling or Spam:
Do not post comments which have the sole purpose to cause an argument.
You may express your opinion on a topic, however abuse to anyone who doesn't have the same opinion as you will not be tolerated. Trolls will be banned.
Similarly any spam will be removed and the offender banned.

(8 ) Language Filters:
Site Admin retains the right to employ the Language Filters

(9) Sockpuppets:
Anyone found to have multiple IDs used for the purposes of wumming and sockpuppetry will have all accounts banned.

(10) Complaints:
Our forums are largely unmoderated however at times the Site Admin will step in (see 1 above).
While we accept that not everyone will see eye to eye if anyone has a major complaint to make please contact Site Admin who will take action as necessary.
Anyone found to be abusing this basic complaints system will be removed from the forum.

* By Piracy we mean

Illegal copying of a product such as software or music.

This also includes copying post from one forum to another with out the consent of the original author.

** By Legal we mean

The selling of any material including drugs, guns, knives and any other product under the currant law which is illegal. Additionally, the showing of any graphic material which is against the law.
We are also bound strictly by the MyFreeForum Terms And Conditions.  Please use your own common sense when using this forum board.

If there is a story on CN, and I wanted to share it, am I allowed to post a link up to that story? or do I have post 'Theres a story about x over on CN, check it out'.

Cheers for the clarification (and the all around work you and Berck do).

This is one of the areas I questioned but got no straight answer. I've erred on safety for now that may change

regarding copyright:

ie - links should be fine under the 'fair dealing' clause.

It was going OK until I got to (7). Luckily there's no ban on cr*p jokes, otherwise I'd have had to cancel my membership.

I'm afraid that if we can't post referral links to other sources, then not only would this make us unique, but not allow substantiation of allegations, that are supposed to have got us into hot water in the first place.
All news site plagiarise.
No news, no pictures, no parcours posted, unlike all the other forums.
If we can't share information, without seeking permission, each time, the forum is effectively dead in the water.

Still, I'm sure the news will be very well received in some quarters.

....Just had a look at page 1 and all our stickies are illegal.
Think I'll take a break, until things become clearer and precedences have been set.

Agreed on referrals Huw. We've got to be allowed to carry on like we have before in that instance. There have been no complaints with respect to this as far as I understood the PM email.

If rule 2 is enforced it kills the forum. Unless Slapshot and Berck have personal liability in this, then why not business as usual? we're shutting ourselves down otherwise.

Killing the forum is exactly what the complainer wanted to do.

I think with the clarification is appears that pretty much everything is ok.

I shall be taking up permanent residence in Pat's office Smile

My understanding is that most sites don't mind you posting a link to their site and directly to the story. It helps them get increased traffic, so they are fine with that. What they don't like is when the story is copied and posted somewhere else. Then they get no ad revenue and you get into the copyright issue.

The sites that don't like you posting links directly to the story generally make it very difficult for you to do it. Some newspaper sites are this way.

what exactly does this mean?

(2) No Plagiarism:
Do not post personal images, unless you have permission to do so.

If I go on a trip, and take race pix and ride pix, I cannot post unless I have permission...from myself?

Thats not clear, but since this is coming up for me soon, can we get some clarification.

Anyways, my thanks to Slap and Berck for sifting through this crap...its super hard to believe that our little hovel could get any outsider up in arms enough to make a threat. Goodness me...do we have lurkers that are pros weighing in on the malcontented ramblings of JC?

sorry this all landed on your head gents.

I think its an editing mistake. The original list we were working from just said images. Obviously, personal images are those you own and have all the rights to do what ever with them.

How I interpret this is as follows...
http://justcycling.myfastforum.org/ftopic1654-0-asc-500.php

If you look at the link above Biosphere posted a pic of his young son which was then copied without permission, Biosphere can do what he wants with his pics, we can't.

I can post pics of this dozy mare but if you quote it then you effectivley break the rule. I'd only be concerned if was kids.

Everything that's public domain is fine, you take pics at at race they are your pics but the event was public so no probs there.

Hope that helps

Slapshot / Berck,

Can you clarify whether anyone external has raised copyright as an issue? Slapshot's email yesterday raised the specific issue of potentially libelous postings, yet the new guidelines cover a lot more than that.

Are the new guidelines produced specifically to cover complaints that have been made or a tailored version of a standard set of Forum rules? If no-one's actually complained about copyright then we can presumably carry on as before, whilst concerning ourselves with the issue about which the specific complaint was made.

Thanks.

No copyright issues however it needed to be addressed with everything else to keep us right. I did not anticipate any changes in what we do but the semantics of sorting this out have been a bit interesting!! Even the one instance I pointed to earlier common sense prevailed

We are effectivley "as you were" on the copyright issues as far as I'm concerned despite the guideline.
