Having been brought up in Leicester and having supported Leicester for as long as I can remember, there are all too many potential banana skins imaginable that could trip "us" up. (Got to get a bit parochial to sound like a proper footy fan!)

At least if it's not Leicester it will be Spurs who have the priceless advantage of not being Man U, Man City, Chelsea or Arsenal.

#daretodream as they say in social media land.

Phew. How on earth could that happen?

Congrats to Leicester.  I think there are interesting parallels between some of the stuff going on at BC with Sutton, and Leicester's dethroning of Mourinho's Chelsea. There are surely lines that could be drawn through Sutton's regime and Mourinho's particular brand of management, yet where does that kind of approach sit with the success of Ranieri and his squad?

There was a (Channel 4?) reality show 10-12 years back that had two control groups in competition with each other.  One group were heavily disciplined in a boot camp, military, kind of environment where any mistakes or errors were punished.  The other group relied on nurture, reward and helping each other through the obstacles.  Over a few weeks the outcome, surprisingly, went right to the wire - with the 'hippies' Wink only eventually losing due to an injury to their main man.  Anyone remember the programme, I would love to see it again?

Don't think this is too surprising - if there was a "one size fits all" approach to optimum coaching and team development then coaching would be easy.

Based on my experience, the more one is directly facing an opposition and the more physical the task, the more successful the stick/shouting approach is.

So on a work project when fighting to beat the clock, the "hippy" approach is almost always the best. But if you want to get a lazy (*) so and so to commit themselves in sports training then a regular rocket up the backside usually helps.

The most successful coaches blend the two approaches, obviously.

(*) or someone who lacks self belief and simply doesn't fully commit.

Match-by-match account of Leicester's season http://www.theguardian.com/footba...-league-glory-season-game-by-game

Compare Ranieri's various comments with the bewildered ramblings of Van Gaal , Wenger's usual beleagured musings, and most tellingly, Mourinho's aspersions on his own players...

Quote:
While Mourinho accuses his players of “betrayal”, Ranieri greets another brilliant performance – with goals from Mahrez and Vardy – by trying to keep the focus on his own side’s fight for survival. Reporters aren’t buying it. “We need another five points. Don’t laugh. It’s true. I don’t know when we can achieve these five points. Now there is Everton away, Liverpool away, Manchester City at home and Bournemouth, who are a fantastic team, at home – four very tough games. Let me achieve 40 points, then I’ll think about what is the next goal. But until 40 I think only 40.”

I was in the dentists yesterday getting a filling done. While in the waiting room at the dentists, one of those morning talk shows was on (the one with Eamon Holmes). Anyway, they were advertising what they were having coming up in the next 40 minutes. At 10:35, they have a story about the hidden sugars in cows milk and how these are causing teeth to be rotted and needed to be extracted. I thought this was apt considering where I was watching it from.

This was to be followed half an hour later by an item on "How to make your own home made ice cream.

i was reading "the mandibles:a family 2029 - 2047" by lionel shriver
Set in the future lots of bad things have happened, the dollar has collapsed, wide spread water shortages, ed balls pm of the uk, one of the bourne tetralogy films disappearing from memory and it becoming a trilogy again

Anyway, my related thought.
I remember watching the Jetsons as a child thinking "wow, cool all this is a few years away"

Now with stuff set in the future, this tends to be set in a post apocalyptic world where the economy has collapsed, chaos reigns, bleak world and the thought that I had as a child for the Jetsons applied to these would be "fuck, this is only a couple of years away"

I think it means you are getting old.
Now, when you get a bit older the adverts no longer apply to you and news items mean very little like the economy or the forcast bleak world.
My only interest these days is the British Heath Service and as I always do is take out proper travel insurance,  which to the USA is very costly at my age and complaints. (something I never scimp on)
I remain with "Another day, another dollar" and keep going.
Don't let the fickers get you down.

Be Lucky.

with leicster's poor showing in the league, i was wondering if it ever happened that a champion has been relegated the following season

this lists 4 such instances (and 1 where they were relegated the season they won) across european leagues
https://www.sportskeeda.com/slide...relegated-next-season?imgid=65302

they are ac milan 79/80
man city 37/38
fc nurnberg 68/69
herfolge bk - 1999/2000
juventus - 2005/06 due to the calciopoli scandal

Nolte, Milan were 'put down' in 1980 for match-fixing (Italians caught cheating shock?).  It's disgraceful what has happened to Ranieri.  IMO they deserve that creep Pearson back and it should only be right that he ushers them down.

This ad annoys me

Top cat: can I get a mortgage
Bank employee: no problem
Top cat: let's get down to business
Bank employee: firstly, what is your name

So she says no problem to a loan request without knowing name, income levels or credit history. If I owned shares in Halifax, I'd be selling them because their loan vetting is worrisome.
