Yes, we should have new admins and I reckon Slapshot and Berck are just the people for the job

Like a few others here, I'm willing to be a lower level back up - would think Kathy would be good

Best guess is therefore, that it's the spammers.

Well it's up to 5 now

I'd be very surprised if the spammers were actually people logging on - they'd have starved to death a long time ago if they didn't automate their spamming to hit 1000's of sites for the bit of follow through that puts food on the table.

IMO, the Nos are sufficiently happy with the current level of spamming (and perhaps more importantly the total lack of admin) to not want the change. It would be good of them to explain why so a debate could be had, but it looks like that's not an option. Oh well . . .

well, there are wummers on here as well as spammers!

I'm quite happy that there are enough responsible people willing to take on the admin without putting my name forward.  But the offer still stands to help out if ever the need arises.

Welcome, TNG.

I don't think any new admins would get away with that. We aren't exactly a large forum!
I actually think that if "fanboys" got their accounts removed, a fair few of us "haters" would complain.
Besides, those who are up to take over, all advocate a non moderdated, free for all, slugfest approach.

I voted in favour of new admins, but I think there may be a bit of "revenge" inspiring the no voters as well...

Interesting! Good response Huwb, but it might be helpful if the admin volunteers were to address this particular issue as well.

As I have said I view the role of any admin to be limited to: clearing up spammed threads (ie spam removal) and the banning of spammers accounts and IPs. And if there are any board features that need to be updated, implemented then doing that.

I don't think anyone wants to see interference in issues of 'taste' - so the fanboys are all quite safe. Unless of course you start hawking shoes or porn...

The whole point of this forum was to avoid the plague of random moderation and the best way to avoid that is to continue to have no moderation but to have admins to ban spammers.

Hello Smile

Agree completely. I'd leave if people started getting banned for their positions on cycling. The only thing I currently want addressed is spammers mucking up threads and I was happy to volunteer because it's a trivial overhead. The policy towards non spamming posters has been discussed to an extent.

http://justcycling.myfastforum.org/about3611.html

I don't know how long you've been lurking but there were previously issues with posters creating multiple IDs and disrupting threads (sock puppets). If that happened again and was a problem then I'd be in favour of the admins having a quite PM in the ear of the offending party (I presume there are admin logs that make it easy to identify who's responsible) and asking them to behave. I don't really care about naming and shaming or banning in these instances either. I don't even care about going through the old logs and figuring out who the sock puppets were back then. Just want a spam free forum going forward. I presume the overwhelming majority do too, so here's hoping people take the 2 mins to vote.

+1, Bio.

If you look at the memberlist, I suspect we also have a couple of people using fake ID's joining just in order to put negative votes on here.  Would 'Guiness' for instance care to identify him/herself?

Apologies, Guiness, if you're a bonafide new member!
