Here's a link to the main Liquigas rider's 2009 programmes. Some obvious races, such as Coppi e Bartali are missing, (one I feel sure Basso will ride, instead of Pais Vasco) but the bones of the season are outlined. http://www.velo-club.net/article?sid=49625
Bart - I'd be more concerned about Nibs and Kreuziger not riding the Giro. That looks a weak team they are sending Basso with.
Good point! I hadn't looked across the rows! I suspect this will change considerably. Basso on his own for the Vuelta? Surely he'll have some 'super-dom' to lend a hand?
Disappointed to see Basso missing from LBL. I think that is a race he could do well in.
3 little letters...ASO.

Me too. I remembered your earlier post on this, when I first saw the list.
Kreuziger isn't such a surprise, but Nibali certainly was.
Must be dead keen on that white jersey.....
Ah ... yes. I had forgotten about that. I'm sure the schedule will change - but no ASO until next year perhaps. Did I read somewhere that half of leaky gas are headed to Aus, while Basso and the other half are racing in Argentina. Think he said January is for training ....
I think Basso is currently training harder than anyone in the peloton.
Just had a surprise visit from our Becks. Not going to the World Cup. Needs to be doing 4 full days a week in Manchester, which she isn't.
Learning to drive, instead. Hence the call.

So, Basso has now posted his values online. Now, I don't mean to sound negative, but has somebody been at the FLandis fluid, for the summer months?
I mean, it's not as if he was riding the Giro, Tour and Vuelta, in the gap.
Quick couple question from the ignorant but I assume the harder you work the lower your heamocrit goes?
If so how much would it decrease throughout a 3 week GT?
Also people talk about base line values a lot on here, when would this usally be taken? Start of the season?
In terms of Bassos workload i seem to remember somewhere (probably Cyclingnews) that he had been simulating a race program during the season (so he was riding hard for 3 weeks) around the time of the Giro/TDF to be ready in time for the Japan Cup. Even if he was doing all of this why is there a big gap from May to September?
Ok I know that was more than 'a couple of questions'
It's all on cyclingnews, Bart. All the values.
I don't expect the 2009 graphs to have the same gaps as his 2008 values.
Spoo: You have answered some of your questions.
Yes, they would......sorry should drop quite significantly during a 3 weeker, for the reasons you have stipulated.
Obviously, the drop vary from rider to rider. Recovery being a good pointer.
As a percentage? Very ball park, but around the 10% mark.
Any offers, our medical experts?
As for baseline values. Out of competition would be best. So if you have a value during a rest period, (say November/early December) it should be lower at the start of the Tour, given preparation races etc.
There are people out there, who know far more about this, than me....
