It is such a shame that there is no free to air cricket - I would love to have seen this Test and ODI series (I had to much to on to mess around with streams and the like). In fairness to both teams they have put on what appears to be a thoroughly entertaining show from the very first ball all the way through...

Hats off to both of them

I think enjoy it before the Ashes debacle.

Good thought. The 1975 template pioneered by Sunil Gavaskar (36 not out in 60 overs in the inaugural World Cup) was getting a little dated. Smile

Nice piece on Cook - and accurate enough too.  He isn't (and shouldn't) be seen as a proper great, but the comparison with Smith is interesting and it is good for the English game that he has his mojo back with the bat

Well Jonny Bairstow's gone back to Yorkshire and scored 219 not out as they declared at 557 for 6 at Durham this afternoon.
Durham at close of 2nd days play are 140 for 5 in 42 overs.

Edit Wed 1st July
Yorkshire won by an Innings and 47.

My Dad was there on Tuesday. (He seems to spend most of the summer watching Yorkshire these days, lucky old so-and-so.) Durham were lucky to restrict Yorkshire to 550 by all accounts!

Yorkshire haven't lost since that ridiculous run chase by Middlesex last May.

I'm not sure about predictions, Oz look the stronger team on paper, but England have played better in this match (so far). I'm not sure they can make all the pitches as docile to fast bowling as this one seems to be, but if Starc is injured (and Harris retired), the Oz attack looks less threatening than when they arrived.

Would still expect Oz to win the series though...

Massive, easy win for England wrapped up in four days.  That NZ mini-series might well prove to be the watershed that some have suggested.  Broad once again looks like a frontline test bowler, Root and Stokes seem to be able to galvanise the middle order and Wood and Ali bring a real dimension to the bowling.  England made some big decisions this year and they are reaping the dividend.

Good on them!

Unfortunately the next test is at Lords where England normally play horribly.

The openers still look suspect, Ballance isn't in great form, Ali hasn't convinced as a spinner, Stokes has yet to convince with the ball, Buttler has yet to convince with the bat, Bell is in terrible form and can't catch.

They are perfectly capable of losing then next four tests convincingly.

You are never far away from the headlines:

'England capitulate' 'England collapse' or 'Australia make England toil'

Well it's not the finished article yet, but the middle to lower middle order seems pretty exciting to me (Root, Stokes, Buttler, Ali), especially as a batting unit. There seems a lot of positivity there, usually at least one of them comes off (OK, mainly Root at the moment!). Ali may not be the world's best spin bowler, but seems to have the knack of taking important wickets (call it luck if you like), but it's not a bad habit to have!

And Wood (and his imaginary horse) is/are a breath of fresh air in what was a stale team...
