Hi guys. I've come out of retirement to show you my Faggin Columbus rebuild that I finished a few weeks ago. I took the pic during it's first outing - since then I've fitted Bart's old Concor Light and it looks great. The bike weighs a bit less than 10 kilos, handles well and gives a nice smooth ride. I've done about 800ks on it.
Here's a bit of history about Faggin bikes that I've found - interesting stuff.
| Quote: | <<Faggin was one of the finest bikes from the Venetian area of Italy. Other great bikes from this region are
Basso and Bataglin. All three were absolutely marvelous bikes though they didn't have the reputation of the
Colnagos, Masis or De Rosas from Lombardy. Having ridden them all and owned most of these manufacturers
I can tell you that the Faggin and the Basso are the best bikes I've ridden bar none.
Steel rides better than anything else and gives you a road feel that no other material offers. What's more
it can be repaired properly by almost any framebuilder. Try getting a carbon fiber frame repaired.
For those interested I found this on the Internet:
Faggin Bicycles
1) I worked for Torelli imports in the mid 80s. We brought in hundreds of Faggins. They were very nice racing bikes
hand built by the family in Italy. Bill, owner of Torelli, showed me photos of the Faggin shop. There were two daughters
and a son who worked on cutting, mitering, and brazing the frames. The old man, a former pro racer I believe, oversaw
everything and did some of the work himself too. The mother cooked and cared for the crew.
The family lived upstairs and the frame building shop was downstairs. Their commute to work was hell! The painting and
chrome work were sourced out to a near by specialty shop.
2) Leandro Faggin was a top pro. He was three time world champion on the track and also won two Olympic gold medals in 1956:
He passed away at 37 years of age in 1970.>>

Great post Sheep - and good to hear from you.
The Faggin looks great - love the chrome lugs - very stylish. I have Battaglin (did all my ridding on it in the eighties) so glad to hear you like those too! |

Sorry Bartali - I should've put that text in a quote box - done now - not me who's ridden all those frames!
Would be good see a pic of your Bataglin _________________ This old world keeps spinnin' round, it's a wonder tall trees ain't layin' down |

hiya sheep, nice to see you. nice looking bike. what's the rear oln you decided on with the modern looking low-spoke-count wheels. after lovely-orange-bike broked, and riding a summer on a slicked up mtb, i ended up with one at 130 and one at 126. eight whole back 12/28 gears is a revelation and makes a 53/39 make much more sense
(relatively)fast(ish)
(very)slow, although blurry
plus, cardinal, tell us about your bike that you've ridden for a while.
nice battaglin, bart.
edit: found out a fairly interesting thing about flickr with this post. it changes the static location of a photo if you change the privacy settings. never knew that. pretty stupid.

Tasty - do you know what year it is? You need a pair of '60s/'70s Campag pedals with clips and straps for it! _________________ This old world keeps spinnin' round, it's a wonder tall trees ain't layin' down |

hi maffy
oln?
Ordinary wheels - just the way the light has caught only every other spoke.
I'll get a pair of Campag wheels for it eventually. _________________ This old world keeps spinnin' round, it's a wonder tall trees ain't layin' down |

I bought the frame new for Ģ199 with my student grant (remember them) back in 1982/3. It's a 'special' Giro edition to celebrate Battaglin's win in 1981. They did a yellow one too - to celebrate his Vuelta win in the same year.
It had Campag SR strada pedals on once upon a time - titanium petals - my pride and joy. I replaced them with early Campag clipless which were rubbish. I'll put the SR back on once I've stripped them and re-greased them. |

oln? probably confusing sheldon's old with a old leftpondian huntin/fishin/shootin/lancin telly network after a visit to a local beer factory. and i may have been annoyed at a broken axle on a 135mm model
at least bart won't be after me victory pedals and straps for the bike with the surprise bit of grey bandlehar tape. |
