Cavendish attended a meet in Lithuania and put in an IP three seconds quicker than he produced at the World Championships. That pushed things in his favour, I suspect, plus there's not really a great deal of competition for the omniun spot with Dibben coming back from a broken elbow.

The feeling has always been that as the TP becomes quicker it becomes less about diesel x4 and more about being able to produce a sequence of high speed turns with imperfect recovery. Of course theory isn't practice, but the belief has always been that Cavendish could master the 'new TP' if he could be bothered. The numbers must suggest that, too.

When it comes to the road I think the best course of action is pick a leader and build a team around them. That probably did for Steve Cummings who's in good form but not renowned as a team player.

Thanks Beasley.  Insightful as ever.  Makes sense.

Unofficially, we've known for a few weeks.

Official congratulations to Becky on official selection.

Unofficially, I thought we've known since April when she was one of the kit unveiling models Wink

I presume Huw meant with respect to the TP Given the interview Cavendish gave yesterday about Wiggins being his super supportive older brother, I would put some weighting on it as part of a reason.

Okay ... got it.  Still think Pooley has been given a 'free pass' for some reason.

Watching aviva women's tour last week, I felt she was a little bit below the level before she changed her focus to triathlon but this might just be a perception problem of mine.

Also congrats to Becky for making the team

Good ... feels like the right thing.  Not sure why he wasn't selected in the first place TBH.

Met Katy Marchant for the first time, this morning.
Last chance to see Becky at home, before heading to the Celtic Manor this evening for the final tune up at Newport velodrome.
I wonder if this featured in Cav's decision to climb off?

Just return from the GB training camp session in Newport.
Nice to be told you are a VIP, so no ticket required.
Reserved seats, buffet and soft drinks laid on too.

Saw just about everybody, including Wiggins in a TP and a flying 200 and a 2k IT/P from Cav. Everybody seem to be going really, really well.

Highlight for me of course was Becky racing against the (motorbike) derny.
Certainly impressed the crowd, where I was sat! Very Happy

I thought they looked very quick.
Tightest I'd ever seen a TP ride:-

I'm going off air until the 13th. (Tenerife)
Everybody else is Rio bound. Sad
Back for Becky's first race that afternoon, as luck would have it.

So I assume you are going to drive up if not ride up Teide.  Supposed to be a cool geographic experience.  Probably no teams at the only hotel now, but maybe.

The men's TP quartet are going sub-WR pace in training, according to Heiko Salzwedel.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/s...records-in-training-for-olympics/

My gut feeling is the winning team will go under 3-50 in Rio.
