"consult the staff because it's the right thing to do and then do what was planned already"

sounds familiar to me too, in Corporate Environment management listen to the people, then do what they wanted to do anyway Very Happy

Was just going to give a heads up that Becky went under 11 seconds today in Paris. She's been competing in German and things appear to be going well.

However, I might as well post the latest on the "saga".

Pendleton take a novel approach to building a rapport in anticipation of being a trackside pundit in Rio

Queen Vic needs a new nickname. I suggest The Toxic Avenger.

I'm a big fan of Queen Vic the cyclist, but I'm not convinced of some of her claims here:

“If, four years ago, they’d made the changes that they’ve made now, I would’ve been a lot happier and probably would’ve performed better.

How could she have performed better? She won the Kierin and got DQd in the Team Sprint and DQd in the Individual Sprint. The DQs were technical offences which are hard to attribute to Sutton/atmosphere during training.

And to think she might have been faster simply due to a different atmosphere in training etc. is simply fanciful. I think BC squeezed as much horsepower out of her as was possible.

“She’s got way more talent than I ever had. She’s much more physically gifted and mentally resilient.”

JV is doubtless talented, but if she was more talented and gifted than QV then surely we'd have seen regular 10.8s and 10.7s in qualifying. Or maybe JV is that talented but just doesn't have the mental resilience required to compete. Either way, the stopwatch disagrees with Queen Vic here.

This doesn't read well. Crazy that a spokesperson can claim it will make no difference to the project when the responsible firm goes bankrupt. Or else it's a tacit admission that they are buggered whatever they do!

I find it hard to believe that Cavendish could be as ignorant of nutrition as he makes out scratch

What do folk think about the reported inclusion of Cavendish and the exclusion of King?

I found both odd but I'm not qualified to say more. Other than so much was made of selection being a results  based process I don't see where Cavendish has the results. Maybe someone more enlightened can enlighten me.

That's pretty much sums my views too.  I accept I'm not terribly well informed but I would have thought Cavendish hasn't done enough to prove himself whereas Danni King has.

Maybe it is not results based any more ?

Maybe it is down to who is most recognisable to the 100 people that have to fill in the answers for the Pointless questions.
Obviously anyone who is a Pointless answer is excluded.

** apologies to anyone who is not familiar with that piece of British culture

I had to scratch my head at that one for a minute - the cusp of daytime / nighttime TV is a murky area for me Smile The kids are anyway watching Armstrong in the rebooted Dangermouse then.

Back on topic, maybe Cavendish got some eligibility points for going off and siring some babies? It seemed to be something that Sutton was keen for JV to do Wink

i don't know, british cycling seems to be leaking like a sieve or one of my fathers buckets so maybe they gave different people different false information to see who is daily mail's contact

Unofficially, we've known for a few weeks.

Pleased that Becky is in .... not that there was any question over that!

Any thoughts on Cavendish and Pooley you are able to share?

Not really. Nothing from the inside.

It's hardly news that Dani King was really pissed off with the Pooley decision.
The rational being that it's a hilly course, but having watched the women's tour, past week, it is clear that she is long past her sell by date. Unable to ride in the bunch and dropped when the pace went up.
Only 4th in a week national ITT.
To me, it doesn't make sense.

Becky is big pals with Cav, so she will be pleased. However, while an argument may be made for is inclusion in the omnium, it's hard to see him as part of a successful team pursuit.
Lizzie A definitely had a say in Nikki Harri's selection, so probably Wiggins got similar.

Thanks Huw.  Makes sense.  I can see why Armisted would be influential in team selection for the road, but less so re Wiggins, Cav and the omnium.  Makes me wonder whether BC have lost the plot with Pooley ... I would have expected them to be more ruthless, but perhaps they've run the numbers ....
