https://www.theguardian.com/sport...sford-defends-bradley-wiggins-tue

I'll highlight the bits that make me yearn for good old-fashioned doping Wink rather than have to listen to DB's sanctimonious, bullshit piety.  Note how often Wiggins is distanced and/or thrown under the bus...

Quote:
“With hindsight we’ve looked at the recommendations, worked within the rules and applied the rules. That is what we did. We did do that. And we wouldn’t have done that if we didn’t think it was what was appropriate,”

Yes, minister.

Quote:
“Our intention is to change our policy and, with rider consent, to be public about TUEs. If someone did race with a TUE everybody would know beforehand,” he said. “Or, if you needed a TUE, you wouldn’t race. I think we’re always learning lessons but, looking forward, the future is one where we need to drive towards greater transparency and making sure our policies are appropriate.”

Fine and dandy, but didn't he say something very similar when Sky started?

Quote:
“I knew he had been to the specialist. We don’t sit down every week and discuss every rider’s medical records. That’s not what happens. There is an ongoing discussion. He comes back from the specialist, says we’ve been recommended this and we need to apply for a TUE and that’s done,”

Obfuscate - verb.  Make obscure, unclear, or unintelligible

Quote:
“It’s easy to stand here with hindsight and make those claims. Rather than live in the world as it is now I go back to the time and say ‘What information did I have to hand at the time? What did I believe in and trust from a TUE process? Did I make the right decision at the time? Would I have done the same now at the same point in time with the same information? I think the answer would have been yes.”

This was written by committee, yes?  Blair would have been proud of that one.

Quote:
“It’s not a broad church of people that are going to get involved in something like that. I had been told he was going to see a specialist and apply for a TUE. I was always ‘Guys, whatever happens in this team you stick to the rules,’” he said. “You do not break the rules. You stay the right side of the line and stick to the rules always.”

Help, my bullshit detector is broken.

Seriously, Wiggins took out an extra insurance policy and got rumbled.  It isn't actually that big a deal, but I do find it odd that (apparently - like Brailsford I haven't actually read the books Wink) he failed to mention his respiratory problems in four different autobiographies.

If Sky weren't so willing to send out the fluffers so often to bewilder us with the latest updates on their game-changing innovations, then this might have stayed where Bradley, DB and Sky hoped it belonged - under the radar.

Just think how good Sir Brad might have been if he could breath properly!

Gerry, you are well advised to remain unacquainted with Sir Brad's literary offerings. They are sh*te.

I have to say that I'm usually fairly immune to folk talking sh*t - I was a management consultant or similar for a dozen years - but Sir Dave's waffle is just too much for me.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/t...-book-details-doping-at-rabobank/

Nothing new here, but an eye-witness account into what happened at Rabobank, notably the hotel shenanigans on the 2007 Tour. Obviously throwing more mud onto Boogie in the process. Gutted. That moment when the person who you looked up to and respected as an athlete, turns out he's a real obnoxious <MJM expletive>

Interesting:
"Rasmussen lied: so what? Haven't we all done things that are not allowed? The team doctors work nota bene solely for doping. I personally have never talked to De Rooij about doping, but I cannot imagine that he thinks Rasmussen was winning the Tour without doping. Is he stupid? The policy that he and Erik Breukink conduct is at best a kind of tolerance. They demand that we are well in competitions, but they do not know how. They do not ask so that they do not know exactly the facts."

and he's owned up to being Luigi.

no wonder Fabian was so offended / pervasive when asked about that. But it proves once again what type of man is Lance, with his Luigi tweet after Cancellara's Olympic TT win

So Wiggo/SKY were receiving some regular "over the counter" decongestant in the package... flown in from UK (despite there not being a license for the drug in UK), because... it surely couldn't have been found and bought in a local chemist somewhere en-route during the Dauphine. Obviously.

not sure if this belongs here (bursting SKY bubble) or as part of ongoing chat about the shitty treatment of women in Cycling.. but Nicole Cooke not afraid to speak out as usual:

My current theory is that Sky are simply taking the piss with their explanations these days, as part of an internal competition to see whose statement can stir up most Twitter outrage.

The only link to the current doping issue appears to be that Simon Cope was involved when he was meant to be coaching the ladies.

She does do a good rant though, even if off-topic!

I think she makes a fair point.  Women don't get a training camp while an entirely separate organisation get him for 4 days??

Her point was entirely fair, hence my observation it was a "good" rant! It just seemed odd that an article about MPs questioning Sky about potential doping ended up being 75% about unfair treatment of women cyclists in the UK set up.

Whilst this is a genuine issue - road cycling is horribly sexist/patronising from the bike shop to the finish line of even grass roots cycling - it's a very different issue from doping. For example, the East Germans were as "equal opportunities" as they come, but not exactly paragons of virtue on the doping front.

The final paragraph "Even after sustained questioning by MPs, British Cycling has many questions to answer" is true, but the questions asked were nothing to do with the subject of Nicole's (justified) ire.

Indeed.  I suspect the reluctance to name the contents ... or rather credibly name the contents ... is that they don't want to give away their secret sauce. FWIW I suspect the secret sauce is not on the banned list ... least not yet!

Agreed. Sky was/were clearly prepared to pump Wiggo full of the strongest stuff they could with a TUE, so they doubtless wouldn't be perturbed about using something that wasn't yet banned. Rule 70!

Has WADA done any checks on the % of Wensleydale in the blood samples from 2012 tour yet? Very Happy (at least that couldn't be sourced from a local French pharmacy)

I found it funny that the cyclingnews report had 5 photos of lance Armstrong in their report on it but 3 of them were him in astana colours.
