What's in your bidon? What we put in our bidons is as varied as we are, so what do you put in yours?
After a great heads-up, I put Torq in mine because there's no artificial sweeteners! I also take an Alladin thermal mug with a strong sweet coffee in for my half time cheese butty as per BRF's instructions!

Tangerine Accelerade with caffeine. Or water. Occasional hot chocolate. Occasional single malt whiskey from Scotland. Tee hee.

Water. Most of the sports drinks taste digusting to me, especially after three or four hours on the bike. So I eat - usually flapjacks or something similar - and supplement those with gels - and just drink water.

Sunny D is more rubbish we can agree there....
Unfortunately Whisky is a poor quality drink, its full of impurities!!!! This gives it the harsh dirty taste. The word smokey is used to describe this 'flavour'. I say take up smoking!!!!
Whiskey on the other hand is top quality. Nice and smooth, the taste of the grain is given a chance!!!.

+1 - use the water to wash down some kind of bonk bar and stay away from those sickly energy drinks.

A Scotsman and an Irishman arguing about drink Who'd have thought it If Scots Whisky tastes smokey, Irish whiskey tastes like asbestos
|
paperman
|
Asbestos Ralph I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am that I DO NOT know what asbestos tastes like.
Smokey is regularly used to describe that stuff ye create and have the nerve to call whisky. Smooth, fruity are used to describe Irish Whiskey. What taste you prefer comes down to personal choice.

As for Bidons, I tend to stick to a nice 1964 Dom Perignon, but the dam stuff fizzes all over the place!

Had to be done Bartali
My bidon contains water with a small amount of orange in it. I use various gels and bars for energy. I dislike the taste of most of these, but it has to be done.

What do I drink then?

You Ralph .... why a nice single malt of course! Short measure because you are still a young un!
Seriously, I tend to prefer plain water, but if doing a long sportive, I have one water and one energy drink.
Any one have champagne bottles - sorry bidons - that match their bike?

I was out last week and ran out of bidon, so popped into a shop and the only thing they had worth putting in was normal lucozade. A bit down the road and I decide to have a drink but the bidon top is stuck. I grab it with my back teeth and twist - kaboom, Lucozade foam is spurting out of my mouth, down each nostril, I think some was even squirting out of my eyes. So yeah, don't do that would be my advice.
I've found I've got an iron constitution for the bike., the more sugary crap I take, the more I can shove down my throat the better. Local coop has an offer on at the mo, buy 5 snickers, get 2 free - CG heaven!
Whisky and whiskey are ok, but when in Ireland or Scotland, the clear stuff that comes in a pop bottle and makes you blind is my tipple of choice. Now that's impurity free.

Yep, tropical is really good. I also like grape and fresh apple. I also create my own flavor by mixing two-three parts grape with one part fresh apple. I call it grape-apple.

What clear stuff?? I've heard of Red Lemonade. As far as I know only available in Ireland!. In order to cover up the taste of that Scottish rubbish they affectionately call whisky, many of the boy's called a whisky (NOT WHISKEY) and red. The scottish bar staff thought we were takin the piss. We were not. We were meerely trying to save our taste buds.

This stuff isn't sold in bars or shops and is only given to people one trusts if you know what I mean.

Irish stout is what the Irish do well. Leave the Scotch to the Scots, thank you very much. And the Welsh, they do Double Dragon Ale. Irish whiskey is for shaving beards. The good single malts of Scotland are sublime and quite tasty. I like Oban for something easy, and I'll take a Lagavulin almost any time.

Always water now. I used to drink Gatorade (powder mixed with water because its cheaper than the bottled kind) but when it gets warm it tastes absolutely awful. And you wouldn't want to pour Gatorade over your head on a hot day.

I normally go for a combo of one bidon of water, and one bidon of energy drink (PSP22 - the unflavored stuff that doesn't have artifical sweetners in it). Add a few torq bars in my back pocket and I'm good to go...

I'll have to give the ultragen a try. I do use preformance now and then. Its ok. Just remember that the grape and apple is a mix you have to make yourself. two to three parts grape to one part apple. I just use the scoops they give you.

A nice black tea. The 2008 Royal Golden Yunnan is very nice. The Emperor's Red is better than last year but not as good as two years ago. Disappointed in the Assams this year. Tomorrow I am going with the Royal Gold due to the moderate temperature.
