WEIRD PUNCTUREI'm just mending a puncture and the tube is holed on the inside near the rim or even the rim tape
Kind of thing you get if the tyre gets "pinched". But I had 100 psi in it and don't remember hitting any holes last time out, can't find any foreign bodies inside the tyre either. Anyone ever experienced similar?

could there be a tear in your rim tape?

I'm just about to put the patch on - it's unbelievable - it's right on the inside, exactly where it touches the tape. I mean, how can it get damaged there?!?
No, kre, the tape's in perfect nick.
Oh well.

probably a tube defect then. i actually splurge for good tubes most of the time after having a lot of inconsistency with tubes. i like huchinson tubes.

The hole was like a small cut made by a scalpel.
I think you're right hw, you can't skimp where tyres and tubes are concerned.
It's pumped up hard - i'll see what it's like in the morning.

I thought about that, as the morning of the puncture I took the bike for a free service, and maybe they trued the wheels? I'll see how it goes, but it's very odd.

Shouldn't puncture the tape, but still......

Do you talc your tubes before you install them? If not the tube could have twisted on the rim and relaxed after the puncture. Also you may have gotten a sliver of glass inside the tire that finally worked it's way into a position to cut the tube.
I once had a sliver of glass embed itself in one of my mb tire knobs. It killed four tubes before I found it. Seems it only would only extend through the tire into the tube when I rode. The rest of the time it was hidden deep in the rubber knob itself.
Hee hee. He said knob.

Can't believe it could be a piece of glass - absolutely no sign of anything inside the tyre. I even wondered if the tube was twisted by the guy who built up the bike, it's a relatively new bike and this is the first puncture i've had. Anyway the repair I made seems to be holding up ok.
