Vuelta Stage 8- Sun 6th Sept, Alzira-Alto de Aitana 204.7kmsOnly cos I have more info than you can shake a stick at.
Stage 8
Oh well...not the best.
Right, now for the extra stuff:
There is no doubt that on paper is a real etapón. Ójala los corredores aprovechen esta etapa para dar un buen espectáculo. Ójala brokers use this stage to give a good show. En ese sentido, esperemos que se retransmita mas tiempo en TV del habitual , al menos para poder disfrutar de los últimos 80 km de la etapa: Turrón Duro, Confrides, Tudons y Tudons+Aitana. In this regard, we hope to be broadcast on TV longer than usual, at least to enjoy the last 80 km of stage:
Question is: Who will have this extra tv coverage?

I don't like turrón duro, it breaks your teeth.
Quaint translation - how do 'corredores' become 'brokers'?

should be fireworks! incidentally the sierra d'aitana, just north of benidorm, are stunning. Funny how the package holidayers never explore whats right on their doorstep.

Very true, Mayo. Inland Valencia region has some incredible scenery. I wish they would put the Coll de Rates in the Vuelta one day - they used to use it in the Vuelta a Valencia. (incidentally, I've just come in from watching fireworks - at the village fiesta )

excellent, family function this afternoon so i won't see it
do you think the black out of the eurosport coverage in the evenings is to get more subscribers for their iplayer function?

I don't know why I don't have the courage of my convictions, when FPing..
Current race situation:
13 minutes up the road are.....
Pieter Weening (Rabobank), David Moncoutie (Cofidis), Johnny Hoogerland (Vacansoleil), Sébastien Hinault (Ag2r La Mondiale), Paul Voss (Team Milram) and William Bonnet (BBox Bouygues Telecom)

Thanks to both of you - I have them.
Hope the Australian commentator doesn't do a Tommy Emmanuel and start
talking about God!

TVE was on a few minutes early, Eurosport, as usual, late cos of their hard on for the vroom vrooms....
Fog at the top of Aitana. Shades of Heras and Piepoli. Aaah, those were the days!
I'm pee'd off, too, as I was about to type Moncoutie for my FP, but it just came out Pitifully.

Pretty clear now, that Sanchez has been involved in a crash.
Still struggling to regain the peloton.
|
kathy

He had to have a bike change. Should get back before the Aitana though.

Oz commentator has referred to Sebastian Chavanel as a climber and Samuel Sanchez as the leader of Caisse D'Epargne but otherwise pretty good coverage.
No idea who he is but majorly better than Harmon.
Piti looks a good bet the way the lead is coming down.

SAP

It must be the same guy calling the vueltauniversalsports.com coverage.

Seeing as Harmon hasn't given an update Tipp are currently leading Kilkenny in the All Ireland. It's neck and neck.
Valverde looking good, but I'm expecting Basso to pounce. Vino waving bye bye to the cameras. It's like nothing's changed in the last 2 years.

I thought this was Aitana, not Arcalis.
Bit of a yawnfest.
Moncoutie still matching the group's pace.
They haven't even dropped Cunego, yet.
Not a Saxo rider in sight.........
.....Oooh, Basso makes a bit of a move and Cuddles is in his usual spot.

Szymd putting on the hurt. Caisse just melt away when the pressure comes.

Cunego!!

Cunego!
....and they are all taking the piss!

lol

Cunego is obviously not a real GT rider, because he can't wheelsuck on Basso, like the rest.
Amazing sprint.....

Fuck off Harmon. Go back to sucking Armstrong's cheesy cock since that's the taste you love the best.

Cunego......bloody hell ...... has he found the keys to the right cupboard again??
|
HuwB

Well, the climbing is as hard to predict as the sprints.
Danielson finally gets back to the top.
Cuddles, Basso, Sammo, Piti confirmed as interested.
Saxo confirmed as not.
Go the Little Prince!

Good 'evans
Cunego is back!?!? How long is that gonna last then?
|
Bartali
|
Nice win for Cunego. Disappointed Basso lost all that time yesterday and couldn't slip of the front today. Oh well.
|
Mrs John Murphy
|
Cunego will go out the back round about the first humpback bridge tomorrow.
Harmon will need to stock up on Kleenex for the next few days.
How long before Cuddles has another mental breakdown and headbutts a cameraman?
|
kathy
|
I'm delighted for Cunego, but a bit sorry for Moncoutie - he really tried today.
|
Bartali
|
He's show he has form for the worlds - thats the main thing.
So mat Mtf it will be a battle of attrition and Evans will lose it!!

Eurosport France seems to work for me.
Schleck best young guy and on my "real" team. Big hopes.
but not on my experimental team at all.
So why did he abandon? Got tuned in late and the French announcers have not mentioned him yet. Jean Francois Bernard apparently on the French Eurosport, so we are spared Richard Virenque who does the Tour.
That Aussie guy on Universal Sports is pretty dry, just tells you stuff you can see, not much background. The French seem to give more background.

Basso needs RK to refind his form and fast.
SS to attack tomorrow on the descent and put some pressure on the shaky descenders like Evans and Basso?

Tomorrow is all about getting to the top first. Well steep. Imagine 4 Muy de Huy's stacked on top of eachother.
The decent is very short.
I would have thought Cunego would have picked it over today.

Sounds very Vino friendly. Would also I guess suit Piti as well.
Has Cuddles been practicing his excuses for the next two weeks of wheelsucking?

What Samu said after the stage
Euskaltel-Euskadi's captain and Olympic road champion Samuel Sanchez fell behind on the descent of the Tudonos. He explained that he stopped to get a new bike after a mechanical, and while chasing back on he crashed in a bend.
"It was important to chase back to the lead group but it cost me," said Sanchez, who was visibly pained during the final ascent.
"It hurts when I breathe deep. I suffered to hold on to Evans and Valverde on the climb, but I had some really bad moments. We'll see how it goes, but I'm very worried. Tomorrow's stage is very demanding, so we'll see how I respond."
From CN.
