Yeap ... and it starts 10m above sea level

Good lord, I didn't actually notice there was a climb in there. Must be a hump-backed bridge
It looks like the sort of route I'd enjoy cycling.
Not 203km though - 20km more like!

maffy
|
humped back bridge. hah. when i passed my driving test i had to do "hill" starts on county road flyover. it may be an apocryphal tale, but i heard that every few years drivers from h*ll were excused from doing that part of the test because the tailbacks were getting too long. a few days later, i drove an austin allegro estate through snowdonia to lleyn, and not having practiced would not have helped dealing in the outside "real" world that much.

Break nears first sprint
The break has a 4.28 lead at only 1 km from the first intermediate sprint of today's stage and of the Vuelta 2009. Once again, the break is composed of MARTINEZ PEREZ Francisco Jose, LEEZER Tom, ROELS Dominik, WESTRA Lieuwe and GARCIA DA PENA David.

First sprint
GARCIA DA PENA David has won the first sprint, beating MARTINEZ PEREZ Francisco Jose and WESTRA Lieuwe. The break now has 5.10 over the main group at km 39.

with 14km or so to go to the summit, they'll perhaps start losing time now.

So much for Brit ES being live for the whole stage.........
What on earth was Harmon babbling on about yesterday?
Has he caught Mad Duffield Disease?

It's not on TVE until 16.00CET, so I doubt you'll see it anywhere else before that!

no, i thought he said in the highlights that it was starting at 3pm BST
|

He did..but he also twice said the whole stage.
Anyhow, he was on 5 minutes before Sporza....
Good crowds, as you would expect.
Other than that? No comment.

Anne, the Universal Sports links don't work in Europe now, although I watched the Olympics on there last year!
I can watch, in Spain, here
http://www.rtve.es/deportes/ciclismo/directo/
But I think this is geo-restricted to Spain.

Hmmm, interesting.
BTW, just flown back from Rome last night. It is all a bit surreal!!

What on earth were they doing riding into the back of that car?

Numpties!

I feel a Bennati bandwagon coming on.
Once again, Garmin show that they are terrible at playing "chicken".
Not there in numbers, when Farrar needed them.

Yes quite typical. Farrar's results would improve just by virtue of a decent leadout.

It's my bandwagon and these Johnny come lately types like Harmon can un-hitch themselves right now!
Anyway ... looks like the Panther got boxed in today and missed the ride!
|

So, it wasn't Bennati, then.....
Stage 2:
1º 181 CIOLEK, Gerald GER MRM 4:43:12
2º 137 SABATINI, Fabio ITA LIQ m.t.
....apparently not and worse......much worse for some....
......Samuel Sanchez,(me )Damiano Cunego, Vino, Frank Schleck all lost 18 seconds.
Andy Schleck, Igor Anton lost 30 seconds.
Some riders, such as Gesink are still MIA.......

Can't find RK either?
Good ride by Basso considering that was the sort of stage he usually messes up. Basso, Evans and Don Alejandro look to be the guys with focus at the moment.

been updated.
Martin finished 99th in the group 18 seconds down.
Gesink and Kreuziger did indeed finish in the first group.

looks like your standard 6,4,2 seconds for int sprints too.
not much luck for julian sanchez pimienta or the rest of contentpolis-ampo. anybody know if there was any truth to the chicken rumour?
this page is quite nice
http://www.rtve.es/deportes/ciclismo/vuelta-espana/etapas/
and tvei is better quality picture on hispa and hotbird than astra1. anybody with $ky compared the picture to es?
|
kathy

Maffy, I can't get TVEi on Hotbird any more - it just says 'no signal'. Has the frequency changed recently? Everything else on Hotbird is fine, and I have a strong signal. Will try Hispast tomorrow.
Wasn't just Harmon and all the viewers who thought it was Bennati - the Spanish commentators did as well.

Watched a bit of Sporza.
Tomorrow, they and NED 1 start at 2-30pm BST, so an extra half an hour.
Shop around and some stations start at 12-30pm, on Tuesday. (subject to change, of course)

Just caught the highlights, I may be alone in not jumping on the Bennati (!) bandwagon (they all look the same...) but very happy to see Ciolek win.

mmm. i know he's gone (back) to mexico now, but i'm sure i saw some wiffling somewhere about possibly contentpolis-ampo for this race. nevermind.
hincapie takes the vacant merkin jerkin.
kathy, think it did change since last year, but huwb's freq is right now. rescanned a few sats meself last week looking for things that i still cant decode

So, will Mexicano Tecos Trek be expecting an invite to the Tour next year?
Maffy, I'm very glad Contentpolis-Ampo didn't take the chicken on - I would hate to think any of my taxes were going towards paying him an inflated salary.
Thank you for the TVEi frequency - I'll have a look tomorrow. I had so much trouble with the dish earlier this year I've lost track of where everything is. Reminder to self - buy an uptodate TeleSatellite magazine!

Now isn't that fitting?
The chicken comes back and ends up riding for a team based in the place he lied about being, resulting in his ban in the first place!

Thank you for the Hotbird TVEi frequency guys. Now got that sorted, plus half a dozen more Italian sex channels by the looks of it I really will have to have a clear-out of spurious channels! TVEi has now progressed from 154 to 1255 - no wonder I can't find anything.

Well Berlusconi has to watch something. Just be glad he isn't in a starring role.
