Hello Huw.
Samuel Sánchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Cadel Evans (Silence-Lotto), Ezequiel Mosquera (Xacobeo Galicia) and Robert Gesink (Rabobank) were all part of an escape at kilometre 20. Valverde's Caisse team worked to bring the group back six kilometres later.
First hour 49kph and no break, yet.

Hi Huw,
You are way too lonely here!! I got to take the kids to school and an appointment. I plan on watching the race on recording, but need to say hi so you know you are not alone!

I am watching it on TVEi. Hate to say it but it is pretty boring to watch. Although maybe things might start to kick off soon.
Edit - Boom blows it apart

Thanks Ann. I thought everyone had abandoned to concentrate on the worlds!
Yup, MJM, pretty dull. Oh for that drop of rain that was forcast, but never came.
Samu had a token dig, but that was the sum of it.
Lars Boom took his chance, well.

Due to a combination of work, in laws and indifference I've managed to miss most of the Vuelta this year - even my mother, a devoted fan, has been (shock, horror) fast forwarding stages this year.
However, I do hope Valverde hangs on for the win if only to put the cat among the UCI/ASO pigeons
