Vuelta Stage 10 - Tuesday 8th Sep - Alicante-Murcia 169.5km
| unipublic wrote: | | A little over 11 kilometres from the finish, the bunch must climb Alto de la Cresta del Gallo, a 2nd category climb with a fast descent that will almost certainly provoke more than one surprise among the favourites, as well as causing real problems for the sprinters. The finish line, in Murcia, is located in a highly-appropriately named street: Avenida Miguel Indurian. |

Unipublic spelt Indurain's name wrong?

maybe the city of murcia got it wrong on the sign too, but i doubt it. unipublic also don't seem quite sure just how long the stage. 171.2 or 169.5?

WHAT ??
2 Saxo's in the break, perhaps an effort to make Fuglsang the team leader again if no trucks get in the way.
36th Frank @ 12.56
44th Fuglsang @ 16.10

Short sharp climb just before the end looked a bit like Lombardy to me. Guess he's too high on CG after the weekend though.

Quite the big break.
Oh and with Vino in it no less. Wonder what reception he'd get in Murcia if he were to win

I was wondering about Vinokourov having a pop too.

Beautifully played by Gerrans in true sprinter style.
Very entertaining last few km's by that front group.

Vino hasn't got it in the legs on the hills any more, has he? I can remember a time when he would have left that lot for dead.

Maybe Kathy, I figure that VIno, like Basso and the others who are back from a ban, is on the "B" mix rather than the best stuff as in years past.

Did Samu take out the camera bike?
A nasty decent, to say the least.
Poor old Linus. He had it in the bag.............
.......another successful FPing day for all.

Have a good time tomorrow and enjoy using your new camera - hope the SD card arrived.

Given how little racing he has had, he has come back to the pro peloton in very good shape. IMO it's one of the most successful comebacks we've seen recently - so far. He's already had a win (albeit against a relatively poor field) and is animating this race. Purely as a cyclist you can't but like his never say die attitude.
Have a great time tomorrow!!

I think he did fall, didn't he? On the descent.
MJ, no the SD card hasn't arrived - I will have to buy another one tomorrow at some vastly inflated price. That's why I sent for one - I saw one in a shop here and it seemed to be about twice the price. But I can't put up with my series of smaller cards - 2 X 128Mb, 1 X 32, and 1 X 8.
128Mb takes 39 photos, but I fancied doing some video as well.

According to the report from as.com:
Samuel Sánchez, campeón olímpico en ruta y líder del Euskaltel, comentó al final de la décima etapa en Murcia que trató de sorprender a sus rivales en el descenso de la Cresta del Gallo, sin suerte, por los que decidió "parar".
"He pasado un día incómodo por la caída del otro día, pero al final, aprovechando el descenso del puerto, me lancé en la bajada para probar a mis rivales y tratar de sorprender, pero al ver que no era posible paré", explicó "Samu" en meta.
Basically Samu says that he tried to attack on the descent in hopes of surprising the GC leaders. However he quickly saw that such an escape wasn't possible and fell back into the group.
No mention of any crash today by Samu. Although he does note that his injuries from the crash the other day are still bothering him.

Enchantress, think we may be slightly at cross purposes here I was referring to Cobo falling on the descent - I should have erased the earlier quotes in the post.
I did think Samu looked as if he was trying to attack, but it looked a bit half-hearted.
