Have just seen yesterday's highlights and the riders have every right to be incensed at the organisers over the crash in the finishing straight.  There are some very serious injuries as a result and some are not only career threatening but even life threatening.  It's no way to treat professionals, its just highly irresponsible and dangerous.  Shame.

Nolte

i hadn't realised how seriously injured they were or how bad a finish it was when watching it, but yes i see what you mean. That was just really bad.
mazda

That's ridiculous.  Shocked
mazda

Apparently more bollards today (if I understand correctly).
I guess they will be removed by the time the riders arrive.

mazda

Reports that they have re-opened the roads to traffic before properly dealing with an injured Talansky, or the race cars delayed due to his crash (not sure).
Fontfroide

Semi-accidentally, just after I got back from my first ride in ten weeks (miniscus op 21 April), I caught the last 25k of the Stage.  Although I did have to turn down the German commentary.  Rather pleasant way to wind down from my wild 20k ride.  As normal, pack totally together for the last climb, at least forty, certainly thirty.  At the end of the climb, after some quite good "through the solid crowd at ground level on the last climb" shots (see crowd part, rider almost on you, useful lens), there were three.  They had some good shots of the next twenty five guys struggling up that last bit, really pushing hard.  There was the wily old guy with the sprint who did in fact "outwit" and out sprint the other two in the end.  One guy was a "what, is he back to fitness?" guy.  Where has he been?  The third was arguably the favourite to win the race.  Very relaxing to watch them descend and then mess about before the sprint.  By the end of the stage, I had 30 minutes of nice easy living.

My pick, of course, got dropped early in the climb.  It was a totally awful stage finish to pick him, must have completely misread the graphic, or failed to read one of the many descriptions of the stage finish.

Back to reality.

Martin and Danielson with 2' at 40km to go.
Biosphere

1:45 with 30km to go. Danielson is supposed to have lost a lot of weight so be interesting to see what he might do.

<sigh>

What's the sigh for? Henao not winning stage?

It was looking like it might be a nice little stage in the final kms, but the downhill sprint finish put paid to that.
mazda

The <sigh> was far earlier than that, although it was retrospectively rather apt.  Smile

As well as young Wellens, with Txurruka for company, the race is reporting the numbers of riders like Dennis, Taaramae, Danielson, Sorensen, Impey, Betancur.
mazda

Landa at 4'58" would appear to be the highest on GC.

edit - Molard at 3'32"
Biosphere

Whatever happened to Betancur. On my way home so shall see the end live for the second day running Smile

carlton kirby is wondering how joaqium rodriquez isn't in the leaders jersey

rodriquez stage places were 31, 56, 1 and 1 = 89
henao stage places were 25, 50, 2 and 5 = 82
quintana stage places were 52, 42, 3 and 7 = 104

To be fair Magnus has been egging him on over the past two days as regards that topic, going as far as to assert that the official GC is wrong.
Biosphere

I think climbs like that should be soundtracked with something like the music from Steptoe and Son.
gerry12ie

Is 'come on Tim' still in the front group?
mazda

Yep.
With a couple of Astana and Danielson.
Boogerd_Fan

Taaramae burned himself out though, now its Wellens, Landa & Danielson
Boogerd_Fan

Landa (who was just watching Taaramae set the pace for most of last 10KM) takes it... easily.. from Wellens, who was all over his bike to try to keep up.
mazda

Yates was the first GC rider home with plenty of splits in the peloton.
Puts him 3rd on GC.
Quintana now 12" down on GC, Spilak at 22".
Nolte

nice pick, gerry on wellens, shame he missed out on the win.
Mrs John Murphy

And Rodriguez takes it via the ITT Surprised
Nolte

not a bad tt yesterday. Good for rodriquez
