And a whispered Hurrah to Martin, who at least attacked with way more than 200 metres to go.

Decent write up on today's stage

I guess it should start to happen soon.  Lovely countryside.  I have a friend who lives in Orgiva.  I see why.
Fontfroide

Why do I spend so much time wanting someone to attack?  4k left and nothing.  I must be a little too impatient.  Lack of tactical nouse.  But dammit.  3.3 k and nothing of interest.  Peloton must have forty guys in it.

I forgot the escape.  They are entertaining.

Pretty much this.
Nolte

Yes, just saw it , group of 10 riders at 36 seconds.

I guess froome should be happy that time loss was 35 seconds to aru and 32 seconds to the group of 10. It is allowing him to build some form and settle into the race.

So Valverde and  LL Sanchez live hear here.  Maybe Kathy might even be somewhere nearby with a camera.  Should be good to watch, the last two climbs anyway.  The downhill should provide something unexpected too.  They do make a nice route in the Vuelta these days, at least for TV watchers in the last hour or so.
Fontfroide

Any of you know that Pozzovivo has a PhD in Economics?  He does.

Yes, this Valverde's home patch.
Normally the race resullts when he rides around here resemble post Tour criteriums.
Bartali

did I just hear that TJVG is out ... Martin too??  Not good Sad
Bartali

And Chavez down too ... no one slows down for the Red Jersey ... Tinkoff pushing on strongly albeit they didn't attack per se.
Nolte

Orica did good job getting smiles chaves back in.

Martin is out Sad

Van garderen out with a broken arm and lotto sprinter Kris boeckmans
Nolte

Bouhanni out too
Bartali

Sagan is pissed at something ...
Nolte

Stuyven wins, great pick Gerry
gerry12ie

Kirby with absolutely no idea who any of the top 10 are Evil or Very Mad

Dan Martin is very unfortunate

Tattered shorts, cut on the leg, vehicle involved?
HuwB

Once again a nothing stage takes out a clutch of riders. Big names too. Remains to be seen if Sagan can ride on with road rash all over his bum. A novel type of saddle sore.

Tinkoff-Saxo ds vila said a motorbike took out sagan.

A motorbike had nearly taken him out in the tour (for which Yates had thrown the bottle at the cameraman)

Ain't new tarmac a bitch?
JJ Rojas does a spot of body surfing:

Boeckmans injuries are so severe he has been placed in an induced coma http://cyclingtips.com.au/2015/08...broken-shoulder-for-van-garderen/

Severe facial trauma, 3 broken ribs and bleeding in his lung.  Poor guy, fingers crossed.

Sagan himself was also fined 200 Swiss Francs “for threats and insults,” as well as a further 100 Swiss Francs for “behaviour which damages the image of cycling.”

Beggars belief ...  Rolling Eyes

I suppose if I were a real American I would reckon on trying to sue the driver of these bloody vehicles.  But I suppose all the riders sign something that says that if they get cut off, run over or nudged by a careless driver then that is just the breaks of the game.

I suppose I probably think that is true.  Just the breaks.  But still ….
HuwB

The roll call goes on.
Todays' winner Jasper Stuyven broke his scafoid and is out of the Vuelta, apparently.
Biosphere

If Stuyven could win a sprint with a broken scaphoid, then I am surprised that he would need to go home?

Just watched the JJ Rojas skid. Ouch Shocked

It was the possibility of him being a DNS today that was surprising me if he was still able to win a sprint with a broken bone in wrist.

Maybe once the adrenaline and so on wore off and the doctor got round to giving an order?

Anyway, it's confirmed:

Sagan out as well....

All in all, one of the most disastrous days in a number of years.

It sounds horrible Sad

I don't want to get into polemic and back and forth, but when a course is judged dangerous such as the opening TTT and neutralised, I don't really have a problem with it.

A very bad day, the main articles on cyclingnews read like a hospital admissions list.
HuwB

It's a real Sunday afternoon club run so far.
Average speed 36.6kph, so a lot of kms to be covered when they go live.
Plouay is on tv too. Watching France 3 as I type.
kathy

Now, if we were in Oliva, we would be at the atage finish today.  I know the finish area well!  Have friends in Benitachell, including one with a house up Cumbre del Sol.  It may be shrouded in cloud!
HuwB

Tom Dumoulin passes Froome and Rodriguez to take the stage.
Sizable time gaps all over the place.

Luckily Big Tom isn't a Sky rider.
Fontfroide

It is noteworthy that none of us picked either Dumoulin, who has shown superb form up steep hills.  Even to this day, I should think that nearly everyone, including me, think he MUST fade when the long climbs happen.  I am certainly sorry I didn't pick either Dumoulin OR Froome, whom everyone seems to have given up on as well.

I think this is turning out to be a fine tour, although I am upset and annoyed that so many quite good riders have left the race.  And, trivially speaking, have left my fantasy teams decimated.

Huw, you make a good point.  But I am sure that even those suspicious of Sky realise that anyone can have medical assistance these days. Wink
gerry12ie

Guests meant my viewing was a bit disjointed so I'll need a second look later.  I can't help but laugh when I see Froome's crazy cadence trick though, and it's even funnier when a TT'er passes him out on the final of a climb.  Froome looked totally out of it and now he is properly back in the frame.

Bio dares to dream big Wink

Latest news from Lotto

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/l...mans-after-vuelta-a-espana-crash/

I'm honestly not embellishing when I say my dream finished with the Clinic erupting at the quick turnaround in Froome's form. That I had no trouble believing Wink

So assuming today ends up as a non eventful sprint, after 10 days it will be not much between all of the remaining pre race picks. Can Dumoulin cope with GT fatigue for the remainder? With regards to the route I wonder if the lack of an MTF in the final few days will leave us a bit flat. No pun intended.
HuwB

The last stage before I make my departure for Andorra and the mighty stage 11.
Will be back by Sunday to play catch up! Smile

The 2nd cat 20kms from the finish is supposed to be 7kms long at an average of 5.6%
gerry12ie

The break seems to have representatives from just about all the teams so the winner should probably come from that group:

Quote:
According to race radio, the 40 riders include: Dario Cataldo, Matteo Montaguti, Sergio Henao, Carlos Verona, Riccardo Zoidl, Tiago Machado, Daniel Navarro, Peter Velits, Lawson Craddock, Rubén Plaza, Martijn Keizer, Luis León Sánchez, Larry Warbasse, Imanol Erviti, David Arroyo, Natnael Berhane, Jurgen Van den Broeck, Romain Hardy, Tsgabu Grmay, Andrey Amador, Pello Bilbao, Eduard Vorganov, Carlos Quintero, Maxime Monfort, Ian Boswell, Salvatore Puccio, Benjamin King, Kenny Elissonde, Stephen Cummings, Cameron Meyer, Amael Moinard, George Bennett, Darwin Atapuma, Ángel Madrazo, Mickael Cherel, Davide Villella and Rodolfo Torres.

Johannes Frohlinger, Jérôme Cousin and Jay McCarthy were the three to get across and get the last 3 tickets to freedom.

I was so close to picking the born again Ruben Plaza...
HuwB

Caleb Ewan abandons, so it's back to the fp drawing board.
HuwB

Kristian Sbaragli wins. Degenkolb managed to get boxed in after all his team's work.

Kirby has a nightmare, even by his standards.
Nolte

nice win for sparkly
cadence

Not sure if this has already been posted, but from Sagan's Facebook page.  I'm guessing he means he won't ever participate in the race again?

,After yesterday's unpleasant incident, when a motorcade rider knocked me to the ground 8km before the finish line and thus prevented me from competing for another stage victory, and taking into account the strange aftermath which then followed along with my current health situation, I have decided to terminate my further participation in the Vuelta a España race."
Biosphere

It's a bit ambiguous, but I think it just means that he's finished with the Vuelta for this year?
Boogerd_Fan

it's probably google translate from original slovak text on his webpage/FB... koncit is both stop/finish but terminate is the first word it hits..

verb
končiť
terminate, stop, liquidate, result, sign off, subside
mazda

Can't believe the luck of TJVG and Martin.  Sad
