Volta a Catalunya, starts Monday, 24th, March

The Volta a Catalunya starts on Monday, 24th March - another stage race with no TTs!

I have posted an FP thread with profiles and startlist here

I love the move towards taking the TT out of short stage races - that last TT in Tirreno was fairly pointless and Paris-Nice didn't suffer at all from being a series of mini Classics Wink

I see Wiggins is opting for the training-not-racing approach that worked so well last season....  Shocked

Coverage at the finish was an absolute shambles.

Mezgec wins, Porte was the major loser.

No GC, times, graphics or camera on the finish line.

* for race details, timing, coverage, placings etc please see pretty flyer.

I kinda like that flyer - looks like they had a schools competition to design it!

Tommy V filled the Tommy V role that I thought Rebellin would try out for today, but Davide is probably saving himself for the heavyweight showdown with Horner later in the week... Very Happy

Filthy weather today but fine form from Megzec so far

Anyone watching?  They seem to be in cold, windy mountains.

Love how wrapped up Rodriguez is, layer under the helmet, balaclava on face.

30k left and still not much happening as such.  gotta pick up my wife in two hours, one and quarter hour from here.  Will they finish or will I miss the last few k?  Hmmm.

I've just altered the recorder for a 18-10cet finish.
Dead slow and Carlton Kirby. Torture.
More of the same tomorrow , cos there's no snow in the forecast.

Yeah, and me about to have to leave for a train pickup in about 15 minutes.  Looks like i miss the last crucial climbing moments.  guess it will be on the replays.  Still can't operate my recorder.

See you Huw, keep an eye on it for me.  Wife will be very unhappy if I am late.

Allez Alberto.

You didn't miss much.
Movistar's attempt to run a Sky train failed.
Everybody then sat around waiting for the final km,
which played right into Purito's hands.

3 hours of grass growing.

I got caught out too. Recorder missed the last 2.5 km. Last 3.5km is up on YouTube courtesy of CyclingHub. That's just about worth watching to get a hint of where Contador and Froome are relative to one another.

Easy peasy for Rodriguez.

A bit of an impressive attack by J-Rod, but overall, I think you got it right.  Although I have some respect for the guy who can attack with less than one k to go from a group of dozens, and win, it really is not terribly interesting as a spectator sport.

Glad I didn't leave my wife waiting at the station to see Purito sprint a bit.  He is good though.

So are we all in the same boat with regards to coverage today, or were German Eurosport over eager on showing 2 bonus hours of snooker?
gerry12ie

Eskimos might have 50 words for snow but that's dwarfed by how many variations Kirby has on debating if the break will stay away.

Or get caught.

Or stay away if they don't play cat and mouse.

Or get caught.

They might stay away though...

Does he get excited about Voigt being there? Tough looking headwind.

Edit: Well it looked like a headwind with 3km to go, but clearly a tailwind at the end. Clement won by breaking from the break.
