gerry12ie

Ta.  Not quite a gimme for Sky and Wiggins is it?
Severo

Finish on Montjuic (although on a descent not ascent) - I think it's a shame that Escalada Montjuic is no more.
kathy

You can now post your FPs on this thread

http://justcycling.myfastforum.org/about4903.html
Beasley

What's the UCI's stance on lapped riders?

The finishing circuit is ~6km with a modest climb, 1.5km @ 5%. If the GC is still in play, they'll be lapping in less than ten minutes.
kathy

Just a reminder that the race starts tomorrow, and all picks for GC and Stage 1 must be mad on the FP thread before the start of the race.  Stage 1 starts at 12.50CET
Biosphere

Gone live on German Eurosport. 50 km to go and 2 man break has 5 mins. Nice to see some sunshine for a change  Smile
HuwB

Carlton Kirby and Brian Smith, this end. Picture feed problems?
Decent weather at least.
kathy

Yes, they're having problems with the live feed!
Biosphere

Picture feed is breaking up a bit but not the worst. Looking at FP thread, has Gerrans really made the overnight trip from San Remo?
kathy

It would seem so!
Biosphere

kathy wrote:

Yes, after I asked commentators discussed it for a few minutes.
Biosphere

Group with a strong GC component gone clear on descent. Have half a minute.
HuwB

Wiiggins pulling the lead group away on an "ordinary" day.
I see Meersman has made this small selection. Smile
HuwB

Meersman Very Happy  Agnoli, Valverde

Eurosport with an awfully timed ad break manage to miss the crucial attack. Sad
Biosphere

Looks like I backed the wrong Garmin pony. And Gesink really contests a sprint a week after his phantom result and I had him as an FP donkey. German TV puzzled as to why Rodriguez sat out the sprint.

Finished 62nd today and I would think it was a Nice - Barcelona flight last evening.
I tried hard to change my pick but this thing picked a glitch last night and this morning I was out to the exercise bike + other stuff in the gym.
maffy

gavazzi also made it over. last seen discussing the slight briskness of the day with his nibs at around 45k to go, back end of the 28sec group today.

wiggins attacked downhill. mods unexpectedly cool, shame for duranduranies.
HuwB

MY GC FPs have so far managed a grand total of one and a half stages between them.
Pappy Horner DNS today.
Great. Sad

Gives the rest of us a chance on the FP stakes Wink

Any reason given as to why? Barcelona Beets not as good as the Californian ones?

Maybe the news that Radioshack are pulling the plug at the end of the season was too much for him?
Nobody will offer him a 10 year contract now! Razz
HuwB

Ho hum, same as yesterday, feed issues.
Live Eurosport here:

Weather turning colder in time for the big mountains. Sad
Biosphere

Yes, some lovely live footage of Estonian teenagers at the finish line.
Biosphere

Live now. 50 km to go. German commentators discussing at some length Wiggins looking heavier this year, the science of body fat and annual cycles of accumulation and loss. They must have filled hours when Ulrich was still racing.

Fenn is their FP for the day.
kathy

Running very late today!
HuwB

Meersman again, a crash and Guardini a "mechanical" or did he just blow?
Biosphere

Meersman was not taking the straightest line to the finish was he  Smile

If Guardini was the Astana rider who suddenly started going backwards on the overhesf then yes something looked like it was up.

Yeah, from the overhead. That was definitely him. Looked like a mechanical to me, too.

Meersman certainly knew in which direction to aim!
Don't think it was enough for a DQF, though.
Ratto not producing the usual Italian protest.

Edit: Allan Davis finishes alone and dead last 10 minutes down. (second day running)
So, explains why he wasn't around to contest the sprint.

Reminds me of Ivan Quaranta about  ten years ago, who would get dropped if the peloton went over an overpass.
Boogerd_Fan

big big day for Blanco today... can Gesink climb??
kathy

They are running behind schedule again, due to the weather. live coverage will start at 16.00 CET

I think it's been live for about 10 minutes, but I'm watching the Dwars.
kathy

Yes started at 16.00.  only 16k to go now
Fontfroide

Only nine to go in the muddy one.  Stannard, Thomas and Hayman still in front group for those who love them.
Fontfroide

Muddy is quite good ending.
Biosphere

The last two days with an anticipated sprint Eurosport De have been on at 15:30 for a >50km show. Today with an MTF  we get half an hour delayed at 17:15 Evil or Very Mad

Meanwhile cracking finish in Dwars so I'm happy again. Will check back in after I've seen what happens Smile
Fontfroide

Looks so cold and sunless.
Fontfroide

A bloody sprint?  No way.
Fontfroide

Wiggo attacked, did I not see that?

Noticed that Pinot did well, and Quintana, young guys keeping up.  good to see.
Fontfroide

Gee, I guess I was talking to myself.  Must watch that, sign of age.

No, No your OK but some of us have to watch the Waregem finish here then move to a comfortable arm chair in the other room.for the mountain.
HuwB

Mmmm, definitely made the correct decision to watch the Dwars.
They went awfully high up to not do much.

You ARE lucky, I was sat here in front of the computer all afternoon, well two hours anyway.  But then I burst forth into the spring air and had a ride for an hour.  A fine afternoon after the nap, cycling on TV and then cycling in reality.
maffy

big early escape of 25 being pegged to 2-3 mins all morning by sky+movi, then just now

grows.
Dan Martin now in line to take the GC! Wink

Getting ready for a trip to Ireland and cheering on Martin Smile
Severo

I should be continuing to make a cupboard, but I'm watching.
Fontfroide

Only a bit to go, you can pretend its a coffee break.

Quintana attacks at end, like yesterday, except Martin is ahead.  Nice ride for him.
HuwB

Katusha certainly made a bit of a pig's ear of that. 3 domestiques wasted, expect Uran to pull back 2 ninutes on his own. Purito fail. Epic Dan Dare.

Fontfroide wrote:

I was............for ages, but it was all silent........
Fontfroide

Must admit I sat at home wondering why Katusha were not blowing their domestics trying to catch up.  I guess they had not real respect for Martin.  Or were just a bit lacking in the strategic department.

They could not have been afraid of towing Wiggins to the top and then having him outsprint J Rod, could they?  What do I know?
Fontfroide

This race has certainly made Quintana into a big deal rather than a potential big deal.
HuwB

Ironically, Rodriguez is 10 seconds behind Martin in the GC, or exactly the same number of bonus seconds available for winning any of the remaining stages.
Montjuic anyone?
maffy

young stetina's making the step up for me this race. interesting stage... and race, can dan pick up enough bonifications to ward off jrod? huwb sems to think the same.
Boogerd_Fan

Phewwww, great to see Gesink doing something uphill again Smile
mr shifter

I thought that Chuckles said there were No bonus seconds. ?

gerry12ie

Dan gets a bonus second at the intermediate.  It might just win him the race...
mazda

The second intermediate for tomorrow is in a much more interesting place.
HuwB

Dan has the smallest amount of breathing space, now.
The GC is going down to the wire.
An anonymous stage, today.
HuwB

Very fast stage; unlikely to be much, if any, live coverage.
Dan Martin took 3 bonus seconds at the IS.

Some Fps among today's break: José Herrada, Dani Navarro, Dani Moreno, Roche, Valls  Niemiec and Ricardo Mestre!
JohnD

Hold it down Roche, don't be speeding off to burn-out!
kathy

Live with 25k to go
Nolte

gerrans beats meersman and a cannondale (had the start of liquigas on it) and dumoulin for 3rd. if i was a betting man, i'd say dumoulin but that's because i have betted on him in the fp thread.
Nolte

my eyesight might be very bad as they are showing dyachencho of astana as 3rd ahead of ratto.

Interesting stuff - but had their been a 15-20km time trial as per most week-long races, you'd expect the top 3 to made of Wiggins, and maybe even Gesink and Niemiec would squeeze onto the podium!

Wiggo would probably take this... had a few "good" moments in the mountains, not to many scares... and comfortable knowing the Giro contains 77km where he can turn around a minute or two loss on the mountain goats. Likewise Gesink, assuming he's still confident in his TT abilities.
