Vintage Pedals

You'll have seen a pic of my 80s Tommasini that I posted a while ago. I'm looking to replace the pedals. Anyone suggest any good ones to keep in with the date of the bike? Something good that I can use for training too though. I know you are all probably v busy watching the vuelta...so no rush for a response.

Clips or no clips?  How much to spend?

If you are going 'old school' get some campag quills off ebay.  Don't go Pista as they fetch three times the price for some reason!!  plenty to choose from.  New look-a-likes by MKS.

Bl**dy h*ll! That was one quick response! Cheers!

Ideally no clips. Price: not fussed at the moment. Must appeal to the eye, if you catch my drift. Will look at the stuff you suggested, mate.

Bart - are you constantly behind your computer screen??!! Wink

Smile You need a distraction, mate! My distraction has just come through the door - kid with cat. Both want attention. Off to do my duties this eve. Ms G is patiently waiting downstairs for supper. Better I switch off the computer now...

Ta for the pm.

Did 5 hours of hard intervals today SR .... how much more should I do? Wink

I see you have got in touch with your "Inner Lance" and are training harder than everyone else, or at least claiming to, which yields pretty much the same results, as we all know...

I take it you've already notified family and friends that Christmas is a non-starter this year as well? You'll will doubtless be grinding away, as soon as Santa has passed by, in the dark, preferably in a blizzard whilst lesser mortals are stuffing themselves with non-pie-based Christmas produce. 20 miles on each of your bikes should be the bare minimum you contemplate.

This should leave you well placed for a January training camp in Alpe D'Huez. The road up the hill from BD'O should be clear most of the time, as it's regularly ploughed to keep it clear for ski punters and accommodation is very cheap prior to the French winter holiday season.

You know it makes sense. Smile

I'm towing Santa around the skies on Christmas eve to get in extra miles!

Looks like we might have to take it in turns to lead the sleigh, then.

Maybe a "two-up" TT against Donner and Blitzen could provide a good way of breaking up the monotony of winter training. Smile

Wow. Does no-one work round here??!! I just don't know how you guys can fit in all the training.

Sounds like there is a bit of history between Bartali and SlowRower. A dual is brewing. Good luck Gents!

Quick release pedals were first used by Hinault around 1984.

Thanks.

Been doing a bit of research from the 70s and 80s...

Not a fan of the toe clips e.g. http://www.theoldbicycleshowroom.co.uk/pedals-dept-22-c.asp as I can't use them properly! A pair is currently gathering dust in my shed.
