Vintage bikes - for ladies

I know Christmas is WAAAAYYYYYYYYYY off anyones radars but I need to plan ahead. I like to get for Mrs G an old bike. I mean one from the 70s/80s.  An original one. She likes the lovely little collection I have. Problem is, there are so many around that are for blokes (in terms of size). How do I get myself a small vintage frame? Any ideas guys?

Is this the Junior Bartali version? Are you selling? I will give you a tenner for it...  Wink
MrsSR

In the 70's I was riding a Raleigh 18 shopper (a red one) and in the 80's I had a Raleigh Wisp (pale blue ladies racer). I had that for years until some git nicked it from outside Nottingham Uni.... God knows why.  Rolling Eyes
Can't say I'd look too hard for either of those little beauties and wouldn't be too chuffed to find one in my stocking!!

That's what I raced on back in 1976 .... it's a 19" frame in 'old money' and was a showbike (well frame) at the Harrogate bike show.  Would I sell it?  Well everything has a price .... but it would be more than a tenner!

I almost bought that dark read colnango of ebay last night .... it was all I could do to resist!

How big/small does it need to be for Mrs G?

Very Happy With such a history, I wouldn't sell it if it was mine. Even if I was offered more than a tenner for it! Where does it live? On the wall - an art statement?

An XS might be too small for you, bart! Looks good though. Never knew there was much on ebay

Fret not. My back is so dodgy that if I was loading a bike into a stocking on Christmas Eve, it would have to be a super light one. This certainly rules out a Raleigh Wisp, though Raleigh Shoppers do have a certain street cred in the wilder parts of Yorkshire!

Sorry to hear about your back. Are you resting it before this weekend's training? Seems it could do with some time off the bike... or core stability exercises and sleeping on straight wooden floorboards!
SlowRower

G - My back is an odd one. Its condition has stabilised, albeit with quite a few restrictions as to what it can do. Rowing, patio laying, lifting heavy weights at awkward angles etc. are always going to cause me problems. Beyond givng myself a day to recover from a hard ride (and avoiding exercise when I get a minor relapse) further rest won't help, unfortunately.

I always seem to struggle in the last hour of my long rides, so the obvious solution is to increase the duration of these as much as possible, rather than resting. Well it's obvious to me, but I'm not the most sensible of people when it comes to training!
Slapshot 3

those first two Colnagos are stunning

It lives in my attic I'm afraid.  The bike cellar is full!

Irrespective of size the little colnago just had something about it and was a good price.  I'm doing up my Battaglin so I'm a bit obsessed by classic italian frames at the mo.
Bartali

Too big ...

Guiness

Did you buy that Colnago? it sold for the asking price.

And you know we would all want to see the pics of the latest beauty once purchased. Right?  Wink
Bartali

Still a few days to go ....
Guiness

Still looking...
Bartali

Are you still limiting yourself to pink Pinarellos?  I look on ebay everyday for the perfect frame for l'eroica 2013.  I might use my old Battaglin, but I have a calling for an old Cinelli or a Masi ....

There's a beautiful red Motta on ebay and a dark red 80s Basso I might buy just for the hell of it.  Both are Mrs G size!!

Let me know if you bid on the dark red Basso and I'll stay clear ...
Bartali

This is lovely too .... if 52cm is not too big.
