Trivia Quiz 2009/2010Just done the first of this winter's trivia quizzes.
Incredibly easy - even I scored 15 in about 30 seconds!
Bartali
Oh goody! Where can I find it?

Start as I mean to go on 15

Ouch!!! Took a hit on the Vuelta question
Fontfroide
Can't believe it, I got fifteen. I don't expect that will continue for very long.
Although on the practice quiz I missed a few questions, like who exactly was Rene Vietto, I just didn't know. Nor did I know whose "idea" the Tour was. In fact, I have already forgotten. Even though they say the "father" was Desgrange.
What a pleasant way to while away the winter hours. Mind you, if I get some wrong, I no doubt will be less happy.

You're concentrating too much on Italy, Bart!

but we should congratulate Bart on a great start...

Thing is I knew the answer but succumbed to the high pressure environment that is the Trivia Quiz!
Now I'm playing 'catch up'!
kathy
Won't take you long to catch up with me!

Bart can now wheelsuck all the way to the final quiz, where he'll make his move...

I join the full marks club.

I fear that one was to lull us into a false sense of security, next week will be a bundle of obscure hills in the semi classics or climbs used in the Gts one in 1951..... I fear for our sanity!!
At least it makes winter fun
Nolte
i score full marks aswell
i also put down "JustCycling" as the group
grrr
dang - forgot to enter the group name and a chance for a brief stay at the joint top of the group league

Slapshot 3

Belgian Jules Lowie won the race, but as for 36th place...tricky

bartali, were'd you get that?
i honestly don't know
kathy
Er, well, I've just done the Week 2 quiz. All I will say is that I shouldn't have done it late at night when I was tired.
Fontfroide
I did it first thing in the morning. Although I don't think that is the problem, I was awake. I just got lots of answers wrong. In fact, as predicted last week, I failed to score shit. Four out of fifteen. That is, I must have got three questions completely wrong. Admittedly I just guessed on them, I had no idea at all. Oh well.
grrr
Managed 13 but there was so much guesswork I have no idea where I went wrong (could've been any of them!)

| grrr wrote: | | Managed 13 but there was so much guesswork I have no idea where I went wrong (could've been any of them!) |
Grrr, I think the points scores go 1 for the first, 2 for the second etc, so you must have got the second one wrong, whatever it was.
grrr
Ah - I wondered how that worked!
Nolte
i got 8 points
question 2 and question 5 i would think
or question 3 and question 4
or question 1, 2 and 4

fede40

| grrr wrote: | | Managed 13 but there was so much guesswork I have no idea where I went wrong (could've been any of them!) |
same here: 13
missed question 2.
Slapshot 3
That was more interesting educated guess at #2 but otherwise okay 15pts
Bartali
Question 5 was a great one for me ....... !
Back on form today.
Slapshot 3
Straightforward this week....15pts Q5 is clever
kathy
It must have been easy - after my mental block last week, I got 15 again. I thought everyone knew about Q5, Slapshot.

....was just being funny, trying to give Bartali a bum steer ........ was straightforward though don't think it'll phase him.
grrr
Lots of educated guesses and not much actual knowing for me this week.
Nolte
10 this week

15 again!

nope, i was quoting a certain Prime Minister

Were there only 4 questions this week or did I click the wrong button at some point?

I was only asked 4 questions and I scored 10?????
Why aren't you on the justcycling list, Grrr?

I didn't add the group name in week 1 (and possibly week 2). I used it the past 2 weeks but it may be too late.

I thought this was a test in psychic powers as my work firewall suppressed the picture relating to the early questions!
kathy
That's bad luck! I'm not usually good at photos, but this was an easy one (Things are always easy if you know the answer, I suppose!). How many questions were you asked?
SlowRower
Kathy - I eventually persuaded the picture through and got asked 5 questions. The 5th one was a text question.
kathy
Didn't get a 5th question! I have sent an email.
I did get a text question though.
Slapshot 3
Likewise 10 points in 4 questions..... emailed Barry as well.
fede40
7 points... out of 4 questions...
Nolte
i think it's that the first question was worth 2 points, 2nd 3 points, 3rd 5 points and 4th 5 points
though saying that i got 10 but that's possibly becuase i got one wrong. it does happen (frequently)
Hommedesbois
I decided to join in but it only let me do the latest.
I got 10, must have got the wrong year
Nolte
| Hommedesbois wrote: |

that was my thinking aswell
kathy
Well, I definitely got the right year, and I only got 10, and I definitely got the others right. And Slowrower says he was asked 5 questions.
Slapshot 3
The 4 questions I got were easy 3 piccy related and 1 regarding some "places of interest" - doesn't give anything away does it ??.... I'm a bit miffed bang goes the perfect score!!!
SlowRower
I reckon that after my dismal showing in week 2 - where I achieved the quiz equivalent of being in the Broomwagon before the end of the neutralised zone at the start - Barry thoughtfully decided to slip me an extra easy question.
kathy
He's just replied to me that there were only 4 questions. Was the year one a really mean trick question then?
Has anyone scored more than 10?

Has to be......... It was dead easy otherwise.
SlowRower
I got 15.
I've just done it again to check. 4 questions:
1 - Yellow jersey (3 points)
2 - Other rider (2 points)
3 - Year (5 points)
4 - Text question (5 points)
Hommedesbois
I just checked the year and had it right.
Maybe my French geography is wrong?
Will look again.....
No, it won't let me!!
Slapshot 3
Can we stop discussing the questions....might give Bartali some clues, he's been very quiet this week.........
Bartali
Oooo ... I forgot about it! Now, lets see .....
Bartali
15!
Slapshot 3
BUGGER!!!!!!
kathy
I scored 14 this week - pretty easy again - not sure which one I got wrong tho'.
Is it my imagination, or are the questions easier this year? Or perhaps I'm just getting better at it
SlowRower
I got 15.
One can easily understand the temptation to dope based on this week's quiz. It easily lends itself to shooting up on "Google"...
My conscience is clear, though, despite seeing Bartali disappearing into the distance.

Distance ?? ........ Bugger's only got a three point lead.... I'll look at it tonight.
kathy
Still trying to find out which one I got wrong - I'm puzzled. One or two I wasn't 100% positive about are correct. I must have hit a wrong button somewhere.

Slapshot - I don't think Mr B will be dropping many this week. Do your IT skills run as far as hacking into his email and deliberately entering wrong answers for this week?

Unfortunately not, but when we get to the diverse questions as the quiz runs on he'l drop a few marks........ ..... I'll catch back up then!!

I was thinking about things from my own perspective - I'll need more than a few dropped points from Mr B to bridge the gap!

Ah, okay, sorry Still hacked off about losing them 5 points last week!!
Fontfroide

Damn. I forgot about it entirely, scored zero. I kept waiting for a calm time, when I remembered, not just before shutting down at night, hoping to improve my miserable score of two weeks ago. Just postponed it like I do so many other tasks. Damn. I need a minder. In fact, I need staff. Bloody incompetent I am. Not like I have work or anything.
Oh well, by the end I should climb off the bottom and soar into lower part of the lower half. I am sure I would have got at least five points, maybe ten, so I am adding them onto my score in my own mind.
Must remember this week, but right now too rushed, too much pressure. I was watching a French huge quiz the other day and found I was always behind on the speed things, but at least then I had an excuse, language. Not here.

Fontfroide, you can still enter any of November's quizzes until 6th December, so it's not too late!

Cool. I didn't know that. I am on it.

Fontfroide

I really messed up. I knew who it was, and ticked the wrong box and then seemed to not get enough questions. Scored ten for last week. I knew all the answers. I should stop. But I won't. I am going to take a nap.
Hommedesbois
I have now done all the missing ones and todays.
Probably bottom of our lot .... but it is trivial.
Nolte
i got 15 today
i don't think there was one i stuttered on. had a bit of trouble with one but that was more clicking the box trouble then the question itself
fede40
15, had to guess one though...
kathy, i'm with you... definitely easier than last year (so far)

15 pts, 37 seconds.....
Is that old Bugger Bartali keeping us on tenterhooks this week again..

This old bugger's been busy (for a change). Managed to scrape the 15 points - phew.
