Tour of Missouri

Tour of Missouri starts today here in STL.  Perfect weather.  Should be a great day.  It's a circuit race through STL, terrible course, IMO, but I will be having fun!

I guess I'll go wild and pick Cavendish to win.   Laughing

I don't know.   Sad

I'm not very excited about the course here this year.  For some mysterious reason it goes through some blechy parts of town.   7 pro tour teams competing, lets go through the carjacking area!!  And under major freeways five times.  Don't get it.

According to cyclingfans, live video will be available worldwide

It says more info to follow.

it's on now at http://tourofmissouritracker.com but it's mostly just pictures of sherwen and some other bloke in the booth. oh no, pictures again.
kathy

that's a good feed.

There's a tough final stage through Kansas.

If the race is still alive, it will offer a spectacle which is all such races can really ask for.

Cav wins.  Rotten TV coverage of the sprint.  they need some tips from France TV.

Less happy news for Cav is that his brother has been remanded in custody on drugs charges.  Sad
maffy

So Cavendish wins the 2nd stage as well but Hushvod improves to 2nd
HuwB

Cav certainly likes Missouri. I wonder what he makes of all these new signings and leavings?
His battles with Hushovd have been the sprinter story of 2009.

CVdV should have stuck with the Vuelta. Another crash, another break and season over.

I'm not sure what happened at yesterday's hearing yet but this is the report:

Three men charged with importing over £50,000 worth of drugs and possessing them with intent to supply have been remanded in custody.

Twenty-three-year-old Andrew James Cavendish, of Lhon Dhoo Close, Onchan, Matthew William Raymond Teare, 26, of Creggans Avenue in Peel and 25-year-old Christopher Ackers of Aintree in Liverpool all appeared before a magistrate at Douglas Courthouse this morning.

Their next appearance is before the High Bailiff on Tuesday.

The prosecution asked for them to be remanded, saying the drugs seized amounted to over £26,000 worth of cocaine and £28,000 worth of cannabis resin.

Surprisingly enjoyable finish. Straight line on a map. Up and down like a roller coaster in reality. Hectic attacking in last 5km. Columbia train cooked - Hincappie expected to lead out for 1km. Cavendish never looked like a contender.

Organisers need a cherry truck for a finish line camera.

Thor Hushovd wins stage 3.
stage 1 he was 3rd
stage 2 he was 2nd
stage 3 he wins 1st
MAILLOT JAUNE

Cav out due to a lung infection - could explian why he didn't win stage 3 as they said the infection was getting worse.

Kicky wins stage 6

Edit
No Interest at all (not even US posters) in this race, so I shall stop Flogging a Dead Horse and not even going to bump it up.
bbnaz

I covered the race for both US Cycling Report and Pedal Magazine (Canada).

Absolutely best answer at any of the press conferences was delivered by none other than Mark Cavendish.  When asked if he planned to share his Harley Davidson with his teammates, Cav took a deep breath, leaned into the microphone and said:

"Fuck em"

Absolutely hysterical.

The fastest (or second fastest depending on whom you believe) stage ever ridden in a North American stage race was delivered during the stage to St. Joseph.  I believe that the average speed was 48kmp.

I hope that they hold the race next year as it was a whole lot more interesting than Tour of California was.  Now with the Tour of California going to May, we won't see the Italians (Giro) but maybe the Spaniards will come race.
