Tour De Romandie: Tues 26th Apr - 2nd May 2016

We might as well have a thread for this. Weather here at the moment is not much nicer than LBL. Inlaws had 10cm of snow up at 1000m yesterday.

Between the field, parcours and weather there might be some unexpected outbreaks of racing this week.

With the two mountainous stages, is there an extreme weather  protocol threat to those stages?

Not when the brothers Chassot divide the roles of race organiser and CPA rider rep for extreme weather meetings between themselves Wink

In the end quite a bit of yesterday was chopped due to snow at altitude even if it did look rather pleasant on the run in. Truncated stage probably a factor in Kittels win.

Ah, I wondered how he managed to hang on, given the stage profile.
Same again today, I suppose and it was to be a MTF. Sad

Well we had snow showers on and off in the lowlands yesterday, but much improved today with glorious sunshine so far (but -1℃ on bike this morning), so the stream over at cycling hub will hopefully be worth a look (and up and running).

Anyone think that demotion was a tad harsh ?
Nolte

I do think it was a bit harsh of a decision

Poor podium guy, didn't even tell him about the decision.
I guess formolo also wasn't expecting to be on the podium,
Nolte

he is a good time trialler.
sure he is no cancellara or tony martin but he is a good time trialler and very much under rated in the field

i guess there is a perception to this and i admit to be guilty of this perception bias too

Be kind of cool if he keeps improving and turns out to be the most serious of the many serious French riders at the moment.  It has been a long time.  I rather like Thibaut, and have done for a couple of years.  He is from the same area my wife is from as well.  When he got rich he bought himself a little pond to fish in near his home village where he still lives.  He is an excellent rider, let's hope he manages to make the leap to be one the best, which he almost is.

Froome, Jungles, TVG and Kochetkov have 45 second advantage with 15km to go.

Very mucky weather.

I was surprised to find that it was his first road race win in Romandie depite him having won the GC twice.

I was rolling my eyes at Wiggo's statements in Procycling interview this month, where he was basically asked who will win the Tour in 2021 and he randomly came out with bardet, apparently the 'most serious French challenger since Hinault'... did he forget about Pinot?? He's improved his TT a lot.. and as the others are only good at going uphill, he is certainly the best French bet on current form / consistency.
Fontfroide

Hard to tell about those two, I am just a guy reading the newspaper and watching the box.  My vague impression WAS that Bardet was the modern, big city, serious, up to date training method, high talent guy and that Pinot was the local lad, who stayed home, rode behind his dad on the moto, trained by intuition and was not serious enough to be a consistent winner.  Although he was always good enough to beat anyone on the day.  I am now quite uncertain about all that.  I now have some kind of impression that Pinot is training like a modern guy and is serious about winning, and maybe even being the first guy since Hinault ….

All that is pretty much intuition from reading various interviews in L'Equipe and Velo, not really based on much, certainly not the quality of inside information Huw gets, for example.

Right now, with Allaphilippe, Pinot, Bardet, Barguil, Gallopin, Bouhanni, Demare, Coquard, (Rolland?) and others that don't come to mind, as a pseudo-French supporter, I can be pretty happy.  Oh yeah, the young guy from AG2R, Latour?  Anyway it is a pleasure to have moved past the last generation hidden pretty much by both their middle of the table riding and the drug use of the rest of them.  I do assume (being optimistic and naive) that all the French guys are clean.

If I had to pick anyone who might win the Tour next, I would go for Pinot.  But I have no real inside information.

I would go for Pinot too... but it's more about the fact Bardet can't time trial for shi* Very Happy Very Happy
