Thanks for these. I had smaller versions of some of it ready to go and I think I'll edit down the size of these a bit as I have a very big screen and I'm still having stuff getting lost off the side Smile

I was going to pm you about that.
The stage 5 run in was enormous.
I ended up having to save it.
The problem is that the Le Tour website's pics are rather small.
Trim away.
Biosphere

Right, I've washed them at 90°C so hopefully more manageable but still legible on most devices.
mazda

Powerful looking group of 9 off the front.
I think our picks are looking a bit less likely.

Code:
Cyril Gautier     (AG2R-La Mondiale)
Serge Pauwels     (Dimension Data)
Rafal Majka       (Tinkoff)
Andriy Grivko     (Astana)
Bartosz Huzarski  (Bora-Argon 18)
Thomas De Gendt   (Lotto Soudal)
Greg Van Avermaet (BMC)
Romain Sicard     (Direct Energie)
Florian Vachon    (Fortuneo-Vital Concept)
HuwB

Majka once again riding for Majka.
Should Contador require his services at a later date, I predict another sudden radio failure.

mazda

GVA, TDG and AG have broken away from their former compatriots.

That's a bit harsh on Majka.
Presumably it is Tinkoff tactic to make others do some work after two very long days.
The collective "they" won't want to let some of those riders take 10+ minutes.
HuwB

Stannard leading Tinkoff as the gap now passes the 11 minute mark.
mazda

So it is 3 v 1 at the moment.
100 km or so to go.
HuwB

Tinkoff seem quite happy with all the Sky help.
Stannard swaps to Rowe.
85kms left, 10 kms until they hit bottom and the gap in excess of 12 minutes.
mazda

Gap at 14', 70 km to go.
The other 6 are 2'30" down on the leaders.
A long 20km drag to start of the next Cat. 3 now.

FP time.
I'll stick my neck out and say that Valverde won't be wearing Yellow tomorrow.
HuwB

GVA looking likely to have a number of minutes lead at the end of today.
Movistar send only one rider to the front, to try and wake Sky up.
But, with 60kms to go, the lead remains at a full quarter of an hour.
Boogerd_Fan

It looked like a real mistake to let Majka get so much time, but a quick check of the standings, he is currently 181st @ 17 mins.. so there is no danger from that front group, other than giving someone the jersey until at least the Pyranees.
mazda

We could be set for a repeat of when TV was heroically in yellow for all those days.

Does GVA have any annoying mannerisms to bring out when the TV cameras are spotted?
mazda

Kiryienka doing some damage to the gap.
gerry12ie

Wow, Salers really is as pretty as a picture.

I seriously thought about GVA as FP today - honest guv.  Tommy de Gendt in polka dot tonight?
mazda

38 km to go.
11'30" the gap.
You would think TDG is the best climber of the three.
But there are two tricky descents as well.
mazda

Grivko looks to have blown.
mazda

As do Vachon and Sicard.
Peloton on the steep bit now.
Gap down to 8'
mazda

Sagan weaving, then shortly afterwards Nibali slowing.
mazda

Peloton down to 30 riders.
HuwB

Magical mystery Movistar Tour.

A huge effort, a lot of riders struggling on the race's first climbs, but the yellow for Valverde not going to happen.
mazda

The front two are starting to struggle and still 8 km or so of climbing to go.
I'm slightly less confident than earlier.

Just heard the words "mechanical for Contador"
mazda

TDG cracks.
HuwB

ITV 4 playing an ad break blinder for those stuck with them.

GVA heading for yellow and the stage win?
mazda

Yes.
He's almost matching the pace of Landa et al.
Alaphilippe struggling.
mazda

Sky just slowing things down a little.
Movistar went too early.
HuwB

A rash of rider twitter outrage and angst tonight I fear.
That final descent is nuts.

GVA walks it.

Movistar made a right hash of today.

Bardet with a late flurry.
mazda

Contador struggling.
mazda

Valverde on the front, leading Quintana.
mazda

Was that Rodriguez ?
mazda

Contador loses 20 seconds.
Have to wait to see if there were any other gaps.
HuwB

Don't know who looked the more disappointed.
Him or Majka with his bottom rung finish.
Kreuziger also seems to have ditched his leader.
Perhaps speaks volumes.
mazda

Kreuziger lost 11 seconds as well.
Unable to keep up, or indecision as to what to do.
HuwB

Tinkoff DS Sean Yates: "We had a few balls to juggle today, and we dropped them all".
Boogerd_Fan

With rumours about Sagan to Bora-Argon if Specialized come on board... they're all riding for new contracts.
mazda

Barta and Arashiro have been allowed to go.
Should make it a more comfortable day to chase them down later.
HuwB

Long, hot and slow..............very slow.
HuwB

GB 1 and 3
Cav 2 Kittel 0 in head to heads.
29 wins now and ahead of Hinault.
mazda

That was the best yet.
Cavtastic.

Saving legs to have a record speed shattering day on Saturday

I hope
gerry12ie

Oh dear, they're all at it... Very Happy

mazda

A hectic start today. Not yet an hour gone and already well into the 40's for distance travelled.
Cav and Sagan were part of a 12 man break who got 35 seconds or so up the road.
Etixx and Lotto seem to have chased it down.
mazda

Shocked
mazda

Group of 29 and the peloton seems to have sat up.
Avermaet, Nibali, Cancellara (and Stuyven), Tony Martin, even Sky have Kiryienka up there.

Peloton all taking "comfort" breaks, so gap going up quickly.
mazda

I think Vuillermoz at 10'43" is the second ranked rider in this group.
He's almost up to second on the virtual GC, a few more seconds ...
mazda

Bakelants, another AG2R rider, is now also up on virtual GC.
The other French teams aren't going to like this.
mazda

Time for a break.
RAI should be back soon enough.
mazda

Gap coming slowly back down.
Primarily to make sure Nibali doesn't get a chance to recoup too much time (he's 9' off the main GC pack).
Personally I think there was a slightly deliberate element to his loss of time in the Massif Central and he's not looking for a podium finish.
mazda

Leading group is splintering.
mazda

Breschel, Navarro, Cummings and Duchesne (who feels sick) have got away.

Major contribution of Iceland to global football culture.

At least those South African instruments never caught on.
mazda

Kiryienka meanwhile is leading the peloton.
Boring Sky.
mazda

Lutsenko driving a group of about 7 to try and get back up to the leading 4.

edit - who have slowed to allow them to catch up
mazda

Cummings goes off the front before the two groups can merge.
Fontfroide

Goodness, I guess they are checking for motors in the bikes, or else what is that gadget the guy on the moto  was pointing at Cummings' bike.
mazda

Peloton now back out to 5'.
Movisky seem to be getting ready to start the drive to the foot of the col.
mazda

Cummings 51" over Nibali, Navarro and Impey.
Avermaet is about the same further back.
3km to the summit.
Bartali

So Navarro and Impey throw away the chance of a stage win by refusing to work with Nibali ... good work guys! alley Cummings.
mazda

Pinot in trouble.
mazda

Alaphilippe blasts away.
mazda

Sky bring him back.
Bartali

Cummings could do well in the Olympics .... oh, what do you mean he isn't going to Rio?
mazda

1km to go kite has collapsed  Very Happy
mazda

Valverde and Froome having a very long conversation as they coast in the last few hundreds of metres.
HuwB

Nibali is well off colour. Was never going to win that.
Pinot more than off colour, loses 2'-36".
Barguil attacks at the bottom, dropped at the top.
French panache does not win tours.
Sums up the French day on what was pretty much a nothing mountain stage.

Adam Yates brought down by the deflating kite.
He had attacked and got away from the peloton.
Looks to have been quite badly knocked about around the chin and mouth.

Very animated.  If anyone finds out what it was about, I am the kind of gossip oriented detail oriented fanboy who would like to know.  Thanks.
Fontfroide

A stage which meant almost nothing.  But Steve Cummings went well, well managed win.  Four stages for a second tier team.  Nothing much for the millionaires.  Something to perk up the Brits.  A kind of unexpected yellow jersey.  Unexpected green jersey.  A collapsing red kite.  We get to see the thermic camera in action.  the emergence of The Coq as a serious sprinter.  And who ever heard of McLay! Not me for sure.  Lots of events to keep us entertained.

Let the racing begin.

So after all, it is not that bad.  I assume ti will hot up tomorrow and things will get going for the GC.
Boogerd_Fan

So Pinot had his team drill the front of the pack because he was suffering with sickness, only to then get dropped himself when SKY and movistar took over? nice tactics!

Zakarin and Majka lost some seconds too... it doesn't pay to go to Giro and then Tour.

HuwB wrote:

Agreed, and I'm very happy with Cummings winning, but what was the point in Navarro and Impy just sitting there letting the gap grow when with a little bit of an effort they may have been in with a shout of a win.  I can understand GC riders thinking about the bigger picture, but these guys just rode 162km for no reason whatsoever other than a bit of telly time for the sponsors.  Woeful lack of nounce!! It's not as if they were worried by Nibs as it was clear within 2km that he was incapable of waltzing clear.  Makes me think they were paid to let Cummings win .... which would be sad as he deserved the win on merit IMO.
phildange

I grow a great admiration for Cummings, for his incredible intelligence of his "art" . It seems he exactly knows when and how to attack . When he triess he wins . Quite impressive .
HuwB

Pinot on French tv.
Says he isn't ill, just that he had no legs and has screwed up his timing.
Feels just like the Dauphine.
So, too good to early in the season, no good in July.

Aru ftw in that case. Laughing

I can accept Forza Cummings, if you like.  Wink

My thought about Vicenzo today is too much effort trying to drop Navarro and not much to be gained here.
So perhaps he will have another go when a better situation arises and the GC settles down.
Forza Vicenzo......Cheer up Barty, he's not finished yet. Basketball The ball is still in play.
Boogerd_Fan

I thought that was quite honest from Pinot... Maybe he can still recover and come good in 2nd or 3rd weeks for a stage, or still shuffle focus to the polka dots.
HuwB

They are really dragging their heels over sorting Adam Yates's time out.
Still showing 4 minutes down on the bunch, when in effect he was some seconds in front when their equipment failure caused him to crash......
Now, who is in the white jersey again? Rolling Eyes
HuwB

Yates finally gets the maillot blanc.

Adam Yates's crash.
He had zero chance.

The cause:-

Biosphere

Agree with Bart that Nibali's co-breakees showed a real lack of ambition - wheel sucking him made no sense that I can see.

Amazing how quickly the archway collapsed. ITV didn't pick up on it in their coverage, bit his bike was atop the archway so he went right over the top at whatever speed he was doing!
