Go for it.  I kind of liked it watching to see if you would win or place or whatever.  Your level is so much higher than any of us, it is fun to watch how you do.

I am going to give it a go again.  Warming up on that link just above.  Even on those easy quizzes I can already see I have the same weaknesses.  But I do love a quiz.  I love it when the answer to a question is right or wrong.  Usually my life questions have no clear answers and certainly nothing that is right or wrong.   Laughing

Repeating the warmup quizzes URL, under "sports/cycling".

Thanks for making this sticky Slapshot - much appreciated.

I guess I'll have to admit that I only got 8 in this weeks quiz! I blame it on over excitement and first week nerves.............. Wink

I can understand that, your life is little more complex than mine probably.  But it is stuff you already know (or don't), so it is "merely" a matter of getting on line twice a month or so, doing a few quizzes, then forget about it.  I mean in the Falklands it might have been a bit hard, but on dry mainland, it should be easier (if that is where you are).  It makes it a bit more of a pleasure for us all, as we have utterly no chance to beat you, so all we can do is watch to see what you do.  Rather have you win than some nameless alias from some group I know nothing about.

Of course I don't mean to hassle you, as I have almost nothing to do with you, except on this forum.  It just makes it more fun for us all to watch.  Will he miss one this week, will the others catch him, that sort of thing.  But no big deal.

I sort of wish Bartali and Huw also joined us, maybe even Maffy, but I guess that would be unlikely.  In any case, I am warming up with last year's quiz and the Fun One and should be starting my attempt to repeat (if you don't join us) this year.  Highly unlikely, but then again ….
Slapshot 3

I'll have a look at a couple maybe see where it goes if I can stioll get some reasonlabe scores I'll give it a bash

Maybe SS shouldn't be encouraged to play the Quiz - gives the rest of us a chance to win!!!!!  Wink
Well done SS!

I thought about that, since you are obviously right.  I would also like Maffy and Huw and Bartali and all the rest of us to play as well.  And I do know that it means none of the rest of have a chance to win our league.   Sad

But I guess I think that we can compete with each other for second place and get nearly the same "thrill" if we win.  It is mostly a test of ourselves anyway, I get excited if I ever get a perfect score,  bounce
and wonder how I wasted all these years following cycling if I miss a few questions. Embarassed

Fortunately I have an excuse, memory loss as I get into my elder years.

Still, it is only a way to pass the time until the season starts in March.  And good luck to us all.  Besides, SS might just lose interest, and one of us can win.
Bartali

I'm there FF - riding under my alter ego Wink

I lost points in week one - doesn't bode well!

What specific info do I need to type in in order to be considered part of the Just Cycling league ?

Nothing really, when you get to the log in screen the bottom left box asks for a specialgroup just stick Just Cycling in there

So that means we are all competing for third.  Unless one of you two quits.  Still, it will be good to see how we all do.
mazda

I've signed up, probably twice  Embarassed
I've just read the calendar that says the first results will be published after the first 4 quizzes.
MAILLOT JAUNE

Oh dear, 7 this week! Started with a mediocre 8 last week. Slowly but surely going downhill........  Rolling Eyes
Nolte

13 this week
Fontfroide

Last year, I gave up on posting my scores since anyone can see them one week later anyway.  I doubt I will post this year either, life just seems to be full of things I have to do and if I can eliminate one I am well off.

However … I just did the first three (catching up with yet another thing) and MUST share a small fact.  Having got 15 on the first one, for one brief moment, until I did the second one (ran out of time for the first time ever), I was equal to Slapshot, and co-leader of the whole competition.  It was a moment of delight and pride that I just had to share.  I am normally not very egotistic, as I know how much I don't know.  But today was a moment of wonder.  Voila.

Now back to trailing Slapshot and desperately trying to be so good that I beat everyone else, unless Bartali stays interested.
MAILLOT JAUNE

Well done FF.
I just have to boast that I got 15 for this weeks quiz - it may be the one and only time I get 15. Well pleased! Very Happy
Fontfroide

Boasting is good among friends.  For most of us normal people getting a fifteen gives a lift to life.  Not massive, but nevertheless ….
MAILLOT JAUNE

Certainly does give a lift at the start of the week, but back down to my usual low standard of 6 this week!!!!  Crying or Very sad

I will definitely check out the answers this time round in an effort to improve my cycling history knowledge.

I tried this year to study the relevant Wikipedia entries, and to review last year's answers, as well as the warm up trivia quiz.  It was cool, and paid off immediately with the names of the three guys who had won …. (you know the one I mean).  I even know an answer to a question about the next rung of Monument Guys which has got to be asked sooner or later.  I figure if I study hard (the data pile is next to the toilet, where I sit a lot), I am going to gain ten points over the year.  And as we know it can come down to a few points, and even the last quiz.  So I am currently studying obscure winners of classics, mostly Belgians I have never even heard of, hoping the answers will pop into my mind.  Too much information.  Too many Belgians.
Fontfroide

Just noticed we have two in the top nine at present.  Nice one guys.
MAILLOT JAUNE

Wow, that was a toughie this week! Managed to get 8, most of which were just guesses. I recognised some of the descriptions but putting a year to them wasn't easy.
mazda

I scored 5, 4 of which I definitely knew.
So only 1 of my guesses was correct Sad
I only got to question 10 mind you.

Have to be careful not to give anything away until after the period ends.
Nolte

I got 8
that was interesting one, I started to celebrate after , like the rider who crossing the line first question 5 and then I saw more and thought crap, like the rider crossing the line first, raising their hands in victory then finds out there are 10 more laps to go
Nolte

did the 2 latest ones now, 15 and 15

a couple i hesitated on though

Yep, I am.  Keep forgetting about it.  And then something comes up.  Then I am too tired.  Then ….

I will catch up today, or tomorrow for sure.
Fontfroide

Just caught up.

Did not too badly on the last two weeks, missed one question.  Single digits the first two weeks.  I fear I am out of the running for second, but you never know.  I shall click hard until the last question.
mazda

I can only assume that Slapshot is the person setting the questions.
Fontfroide

It IS totally awesome.  Whatever other qualities, bike choices, personality defects, foolish historical choices, career prospects, etc Slapshot might have, it does seem like he knows a helluva lot of cycling trivia.  Not that bad on picking winners either.  In our small world, someone to admire and respect.  I do anyway.
Slapshot 3

Awww....sweet!

It's called being very very sad. When I get something I want to achieve I try to do it and winning the winter quiz at some point was important to me personally and to see JC on top.

All being well, I will stop at the end of this year and Barry has already asked if I'll join the "other" side, I'll be proud to do so.
gerry12ie

You should be proud to be so sad Wink
Fontfroide

Tiny little six question quiz to help us come down.

If you have the time, PM me and tell me how you possibly could know what stretch of pave that was and how you could tell one berg from another.  I am not really very good on muddy northern races.

Five

Only 4
I can't believe No 1 but I can't say why just yet (for new comers sake)
where the hell is No 6 (I thought Huy)
MAILLOT JAUNE

Congratulations on winning the Trivia Monday Quiz Slapshot! Chapeau!
gerry12ie

Congrats SS
Slapshot 3

Thanks guys... I have now officially retired... but moving to the dark side..... Wink
Fontfroide

Well done SS.  I watched your progress the whole season, and was totally impressed how you knew all that information AND could remember it so quickly.  I even felt a smidgeon or pride for our small group through your success.  Retiring on a high before things start to deteriorate, good decision.
MAILLOT JAUNE

Oooh, I forgot that you'll be setting the questions next year.......be kind to us! Wink

Narrow section and the cinder track on the left... only strech in that set I've seen like that....

I've always felt that we preform well..... I just get embarrassingly sad about quizzes.. I will create questions and submit them to Baryy as he has asked... how vicious he gets.... Ill just mention the last quiz.... think that was the toughest I've ever seen set

Its back..........  Cool  Cool  Cool

Nice post Mazda.  Made me laugh, which is good when one is feeling ill.

I am going to try to get the whole month done at some point when I feel healthy, bright and have "free time".  If I fail to do it this month, I will try next month.  And so on.  I am alive, but somehow postponing joining the quiz.
Nolte

Oops, I got a 2 and a 1 on this weeks quizes
Fontfroide

But in the end you did just fine.  Congrats.  Your name on the roll of honour for all of history.  Cool.
Nolte

This is disappointing
