The Cycling Revealed Trivia Quiz 2011-2012

Got the email......it's back!!

http://www.cyclingrevealed.com/trivia/triviaindex.htm

However, technical issues mean that we won't see the first two quizzes until next Monday, 14th of November (another week to study..Wink ). For any noobs, this is what keeps our minds ticking over between Lombardia and Het Volk (okay Het Neuiwsblad) and is a good bit of fun, I would encourage everyone to join in.

(I'll leave this as a sticky for the period of the quiz then let it drift come March)
Bartali

Bring it on ....
MAILLOT JAUNE

What a brilliant surprise to see the Quiz back - I'd forgotten all about it but am sooooooooooooo snowed under at work that I might not have enough time to do it, but have fun and thanks again to Barry Boyce for organising it! Keep up the good work.
Bartali

Wow you must be snowed MJ.  It only takes 3 mins max per week.
Slapshot 3

They are there....anyone??
Fontfroide

6.

I think I have begun as I will be carrying on.
Doubt if I will post until I get a decent score, or at least feel a little less than ignorant.  I just don't know those facts.
Fontfroide

mistake
Slapshot 3

15 and 15, second one was easy, Q5 on the first made me think!
SlowRower

13 last week. 14 this week.
kathy

9 1st week, 14 second week.  Apart from the fact that I'd never heard of Q3 weej 2, the rest of it was really easy!  Week 2that is!
Nolte

15 and 15
nicedommie

8 and 11
Slapshot 3

See Nolte gets a special mention in Barry's email.... Ill have a crack in a wee while

-------------------

EDIT - couple of tricky ones, one huge guess that made me sweat, worked out okay though, 15.
kathy

Yeah, a couple of 'educated' guesses, but scored 15!
Nolte

yes I just got lucky with the first two batches of questions

11 this week.
SlowRower

15 for me. Educated guess on Q4.

And me! Embarassed   Quite frankly, I hadn't a clue!  But usually when I guess it's wrong, so I ought to get lucky sometimes Very Happy
nicedommie

i confess to scoring 1 on the latest quiz. so noone else should ever be embarrassed! Embarassed  Embarassed  Embarassed  Embarassed
SlowRower

15 for me. The "Guessing Gods" are on my side this year so far. They usually are pre-Christmas, after which things go badly wrong. Sad
Slapshot 3

Look at it this evening....
Slapshot 3

Four was a guess.........but 15
Nolte

i got 10 which is a surprise. I was expecting 11.
bbnaz

well I am bumping along at the bottom as usual however did do well on Week 2.

Anybody want to loan me their guessing cube?
Slapshot 3

Ive decided to do a Bart and be enigmatic....not telling scores... That is tough, you either know them or crash and burn, be interesting to see some of the scores this week!
SlowRower

15 for me. Educated guesses on #1 and #3.
Nolte

ouch, 5 and happy to have got it Smile
kathy

I got 7 - knew one of them and guessed the rest, so must have guessed one right! Very Happy
kathy

I take it that means you didn't score 15 this week Laughing

Well, just wait and see when the scores come out next week.... Wink
nicedommie

i've given up, they are too hard for me
gerry12ie

Great week for me -  a distinction in my fourth year of an Art History Degree and my first 15 in the quiz Cool  Very Happy
Bartali

Good work Gerry!

Congrats..
Bartali

I'm definitely being enigmatic this week ....
SlowRower

Come on guys. Spill the beans. Enigma is one thing, but depriving spectators of the result until a month after the event is just not cricket. Smile

Unintentional irony there. It might not be cricket, but it is cycling, as we still don't know for sure who will ultimately end up as the winner of the Tour in 1999-2005 and 2010...

Indeed. But did you get the order of importance right in your post? Smile
Slapshot 3

Oh awwwww right then....... 15
SlowRower

Not if we appeal to CAS... Smile

I'm not sure how one could possibly 'know' No.3 despite the clues  ... though I can see how one could be elimnated and an educated guess taken on the other three. scratch

Alas no.  I felt that if I mentioned that I put up the Ikea curtain track system on my own this week (level, parallel and even) that it would be a bridge to far for belief  Wink
kathy

Just done this week's.

Anyone who doesn't get 15 this week should be ashamed of his/herself.  (I did get 15 Laughing )

Who is SrPedro in the JC standings?

Nolte

Bartali

No need to be enigmatic this week.  15 + 5 for the bonus question! Wink
gerry12ie

Bonus question???
Bartali

Just my little joke Gerry! Smile
gerry12ie

Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  15

Hi slapshot, yep all good thanks!

and finally using my bike for more than just commute, in june I'm taking part to a London to Paris charity ride! and for my cycling standards that's basically a TdF!  Very Happy

but don't want to hijack this thread  Wink
SlowRower

15 for me. My only disappointment was that none of MJM's nicknames for riders featured. That would have livened things up. Smile
Nolte

i got 3 today. fiddlesticks.
kathy

I got the first 3 right, and guessed the other two - wrongly! Sad  So 6 only
SlowRower

11. 50% hit rate on guesses on the final 2 questions.
Slapshot 3

Lucky educated guess on 5 otherwise okay
gerry12ie

Slapshot 3 wrote:

Unlucky miseducated guess on 5  Crying or Very sad 11
Bartali

Hard one to finish December!!!
gerry12ie

A disastrous 3 which I am blaming my christmas present new trackpad for as I am sure I had 4 answers right at least Embarassed
kathy

The season, as usual, goes downhill!  3 for me as well Evil or Very Mad
Nolte

i got 8 on this one. i guess my guess on question 5 was a lucky guess.
kathy

I loved the first quiz of the New Year Very Happy  Wink

(PS - I scored 15)
Nolte

i got 12 this one,.
gerry12ie

A traditional mouse yielded 11 Wink
SlowRower

3 and 15 for the festive period quizzes. Surprised I got as many as three for the first one!
Nolte

i got 10 today
I don't know whether that's ok or bad
Bartali

I had to think long and hard about some of those ...

Anyway 10 is 67% Nolte ... that's a pass in my book! Wink
kathy

I got 9 on this one.
Bartali

Still a pass Kathy Smile
kathy

Bartali wrote:

How do you think long and hard?  You only get 2 minutes!  That's what bugs me - the time limit.  I tend to answer without thinking sometimes, and say I'll go back to the ones I'm not sure about - but I never do!

I think Bart's playing some of his mind games again... Wink

With those quickies we get I think you either know or don't know and if you don't it's a guess, two minutes is not a long time!!
Bartali

Eight seconds a question can be a very long time if you are answering some of them in one or two seconds.  But I take your point ... maybe think hard, but not for too long! Wink
gerry12ie

I got a malicious software warning on the quiz page today (in work on a PC with Firefox) and again tonight on the Mac with Safari.  Anyone try it?
Slapshot 3

No technical probs for me this afternoon when I did the quiz
Nolte

gerry12ie wrote:

i got the same. i use firefox
kathy

I use Firefox and didn't have any problems - didn't help me with the quiz though Twisted Evil
Nolte

got 6 now.
SlowRower

12 last week. 7 this week. Ran out of time just as I was about to answer q5 this week.
Nolte

i scored 8 today. could have been 6 though.

i also don't like the look of next week's. barry usually does a very hard one on the fifth week of a month
kathy

I got 9 today - but I'm a bit confused, because I knew Q5, so by my reckoning I must have got Q2 wrong!
Nolte

kathy wrote:

i do think Q5 was easier than usual for a question 5.

so am I Smile
Nolte

got 10 this week
Nolte

Boonen takes the final stage in San Luis ahead of Andrea Guardini and Maximilliano Richeze (contrary to what i said previously, he's riding this race for the argentinian national squad)

Leipheimer took the overall ahead of contador. In 3rd, Daniel Diaz, 4th Schumacher and 5th was Vincenzo Nibali
Bartali

All these drug busts are playing havoc with the weekly quiz - difficult to keep track of who won what and when .....
Nolte

Bartali wrote:

Q8 was really difficult Very Happy

got 15 though.
Nolte

i got 7 points this week, the 3rd question and the super secret bonus question.
SlowRower

19 for me. Smile

The "Force" was with me on a couple of guesses.
kathy

I got 9, which included the bonus question which was easy.
Nolte

7 today.
ouch, i thought they were tough.
Slapshot 3

BUGGER!!!!!! 13...Okay Bart...all yours
Fontfroide

Damn, I thought you guys were going to have a draw, and then we could do some kind of Skype conference with live questions.  Still, I have no idea how you could know all those answers.  I suspect use of performance enhancing substances of some kind, legal or not.  I don't think an ordinary person can know that much, with all those dates.

But, although some might mock it, I felt a tiny bit of pride when I saw your names at the top.  Respect.

Yes indeed +1 salut
Slapshot 3

Look boys....being a complete Geek isn't all its cracked up to be..Wink

Trust me it's all books, I read voraciously, in fact adorning the downstairs bookcase right now (wifes wicker thingy in the bog) are three book ..... on is the memoirs of Dick Winters (Band of Brothers) Fallen Angel, Will Fotheringhams bio of Fausto Coppi (2nd copy, worn the first one out) and Sex Lies and Handlebar tape, the recent bio of Maitre Jacques. When I get something in my head, like this quiz, I can't let go until I've won it...problem is though that if i now can't win it this year it wont be next year.

Thing is if Bart can hold on and take it, I'll be as ecstatic about Bart winning and JC being at the top of the table.
maffy

dunno about that. vaguely looked at winter-quiz a couple of years back and anyfolks wot do consistently well are super excellent. read all those books too, but it didn't make me timed-quiz-good.

no pressure, bart Cool
SlowRower

A feeble 6 this week. That's barely a GCSE pass standard. Sad
kathy

Damn!  Couldn't remember the last one, so only got 10!!  I was worried, because Barry said March would be tough, but I thought today was quite easy.
Slapshot 3

I'll see it tonight....was thouroughly hacked off when I read the email... Sad
SlowRower

15 for me. Smile
