They are really hyping up this stage. Must be getting desperate for something to happen. The Paul/Phil show will be spending the preceding 3 hours building up a monster dramatic finish, before blithely ignoring what they said previously when the letdown occurs. We will probably see blue shirts in the top three overall today.
Boogerd_Fan
for anyone but Schleck to be successful, they surely have to go on the 2nd cat Mosses. Andy, is only 90 seconds down, can afford to go on the Verbier...
omg people please just something happen!
p.s. that youtube clip is so cool!
chardon
The peloton will observe a minute of silence before starting today in respect for the 61 yo lady killed yesterday.
HuwB
Crickey. I thought it was in town, but it's in the middle of nowhere.
Sorry to say, but it looks like she wasn't looking where she was growing.
That child is clearly distraught.
I had expected the stage to be neutralised,as a result.
Oh well, France 2 kicks off at 12-30BST, Brit ES has vroom vrooms, so 14-45BST, or later.
What are International doing?
I see another late, late, late or never show on the cards.
It's a long, long way from Mosses (60kms)to Verbier...
Two races in one, the first for the Polka Dot.
Not sure what the second is about.

Neither do any of the rest of them.....unfortunately
I sense a grind with Berto jumping away at the end for another 20 sec
chardon
Berto will show us something today. He was delighted when his parents arrived to see him ride yesterday. Reckon he will be fired to dance on the mountains today.
HuwB
The last time a major tour climbed to the summit. Make of it, what you will.
I think it's fairly telling, when you consider DeVolder attacked from the base:
2008 Tour de Suisse Results
1 Kim Kirchen (Lux) Team High Road 5.29.23 (34.264 km/h)
2 Andreas Klöden (Ger) Astana
3 Roman Kreuziger (Cze) Liquigas 0.06
4 Sergei Ivanov (Rus) Astana 0.12
5 Stijn Devolder (Bel) Quick Step 0.20
6 Andy Schleck (Lux) Team CSC
7 Thomas Lövkvist (Swe) Team High Road 0.27
8 Igor Anton Hernandez (Spa) Euskaltel - Euskadi 0.29
9 Damiano Cunego (Ita) Lampre 0.31
10 Markus Fothen (Ger) Gerolsteiner
11 Christian Knees (Ger) Team Milram 0.38
12 Laurens Ten Dam (Ned) Rabobank
Not sure I get your point Huw, can you elaborate pls?
Bartali
I think he means that it is hardly a climbers hill ...
kathy
Today's stage seems to be on RTBF satellite from 13.40CET, if that's any use to any of you who are unhappy at ES's coverage.
That Youtube video of the stage is great. Lots of hairpins on the Verbier climb.

i'll be watching TG4's coverage here as it starts at 12:40
though it is also in a indecipherable language
mayofan
big breakaway containing pellizotti, martinez, kern and moncoutie unsurprisingly.
but also van den broeck cancellara and tony martin. Interesting move by martin.
kathy
!
Fortunately, RTBF is in French, so I have no problems with that!
MAILLOT JAUNE
Will be watching it on Sporza (Belgium)-no adverts at all as opposed to watching the Dutch Eurosport coverage - my Dutch/Flemish is pretty bad, but I can follow the coverage and make out some of what they're talking about.
Tony Martin is definitely a threat to the Yellow Jersey in that break.

Apologies, been out. Yes, Bartali has called it. Not a climb for big GC gains, IMO.
I may be wrong, hence make of it what you will.
French tv now live. Cool (very) but sunny, so no excuses.
kathy
RTBF also live now The members of the break have changed, no Martin or Pellizotti, Martínez etc in there now. The commentators don't seem to have twigged yet.
Hesjedal out in front, but only about 20 seconds.
kathy
Astarloza the virtuall maillot jaune now?
chardon
Efimkin abandons. Hunger flat.
HuwB
Not for long. Who are those guys in turquoise who won't get off the front and let others have a go?
Nothing much until, Km 135.0 - Col des Mosses - 13.8 km climb to 4 % - Category 2, so, nothing much until Verbier, I would not very tentatively suggest.
Nice sunny day. Makes for a good tourism ad.
cyclingtv
for the first hour of versus coverage.. so far it's been..
surprisingly phil critical of astana driving the peloton yesterday..
and with paul defending astana and bobke condemning garmin

Well the descent from Mosses down to Aigle might throw up a few surprises. It's technical if I remember.
Edit: Double checked a map - must be mixing it up with something else.
Just heard cavendish say that Hincapie was "unjustly" denied the yellow jersey yesterday. God you have to feel sorry for AG2R - how dare they keep their man in yellow.
HuwB
Furck Euroshite, today. ITV4 is already live with the fanboy duo commentating.
Wow, the peloton are really driving up the 2nd cat.
Holy Mosses?

Cavendish was responsible for Hincapie not making yellow...why in the hell did Columbia send their men to the front of the peleton with 4km to go??? The AG2R boys were knackered and not gonna be able to pull back enough time...Columbia shot themselves in the foot, chasing 13th place for Cav...DUMBSHITS!

Today´s break looks good...lots of good climbers in there...I cant see Astarloza, Fedrigo and Moncoutie getting caught now...

Bartali
There's a hard side and an easy side .... this year they're going over the easy side. Just about sums it up really!
smarauder68
Why didnt Pellizotti make the break today? He will probably lose the KOM jersey today.
Bartali
SM - Looked to me like Columbia were slowing it down by breaking up the chase rather than forcing the pace.
Jackov
- Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin), Jurgen Van Den Broeck (Silence), Mikel Astarloza (Euskaltel), Fabian Cancellara (Saxo Bank), José Ivan Gutierrez (Caisse d'Epargne), Amael Moinard, David Moncoutié (Cofidis), Pierrick Fedrigo (Bbox), Simon Spilak (Lampre), Juan Antonio Flecha (Rabobank)
That's the sort of group and situation where you expect to see Popo...
Bartali
Why'sLA riding deep in the pack? Its not like him.

Chicken feed climbs. He will look for a good position at verbier (double points 1 cat) and the two big climbs on tuesday.

SM - Looked to me like Columbia were slowing it down by breaking up the chase rather than forcing the pace.
They started their lead out for Cav with 2km to go...why not let another team force the issue in the last 1km...the lead out men for Cav were flying in that last 2 or 3km on the front...the 5 secs difference were caused by Columbia worrying about 1 or 2 pts for 13th vs 14th....
Bartali
You are right, it might have made the difference, but they clearly weren't going full bore.
Jackov
65km from summit of this climb to base of next.
Time for a shave and a shower after a ride

Is Sherwan an idiot? "This is the kind of damage been done at the back" he says. What ... like not dropping anyone?

What was Armstrong up to hanging round the back on the climb?

Glandon, revisited.
Fooling nobody...........well, maybe he is, with this load of DUMBSHITS! (copyright SM 2009)
Bartali
He can't be pretending he's in trouble because no one was with him. Think he just saying "I'm cool ... nothings happening today."
headwind
you are right...just hopeful some sort of race would develop today...how foolish of me
HuwB
Well, he could have riding up beside the team car, it wouldn't have mattered.
Who, in their right mind is going to attack and ride 60kms to the foot of Verbier?
chardon
Fignon and Adam on France 2 are joking that Armstrong is simmering something. (Il mijote.) Whatever the joke means...
kathy
They're still motor-racing on ES - I've got the audio on the PC. Mixture of Belgian and Swiss commentators on RTBF. Moaning about lack of action in the Tour, and lack of Belgian and Swiss Tour contenders.
70kmph
Canada in break- Ryder Hesjedal

French commentators now joking about Silence Lotto, saying Silence is an anti-snoring product

kathy
Andy has changed his bike.
They have just passed the 'Cascade de Pissevache'
cyclingtv
Armstrong is back with his teammates at the front of the peloton.
He took some time out earlier on the Col des Mosses and hid
inside the bunch, letting his fellow Astana riders do their job alone.
34km to go
Current situation:
- Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin),
Jurgen Van Den Broeck (Silence),
Mikel Astarloza (Euskaltel),
Fabian Cancellara (Saxo Bank),
José Ivan Gutierrez (Caisse d'Epargne),
Amael Moinard, David Moncoutié (Cofidis),
Pierrick Fedrigo (Bbox),
Simon Spilak (Lampre),
Juan Antonio Flecha (Rabobank)

Still to go live.
