Bernard Eisel has taken over the mantle of Lanterne Rouge from van Sevenant. Will Wim be able to win it back in the TT?

They both will have to be careful not to miss the cut-off time. I can see them eyeballing eachother, 20 metres from the finish!

So Evans hasn't won a stage. Will he try for the stage win, or ease up a bit if he gets the time he needs?
I guess riding ahead of Sastre by what, 6 minutes or more, he won't really have the chance to be certain he's gained enough to win it.
I don't see him winning the stage though. CVV maybe, but not enough to get him onto the podium.

| Bartali wrote: | | What time to the leaders set off?? I have chores to do, but don't want to miss the good bits! |
Kreuziger will start at about 1550, Evans at 1671 and Sastre at 1626
|
Fontfroide
|
My picks, just intuitive, after studying the time gaps. I would have no idea of the times, but I have “reasons” and have added them.
1 Evans rides brilliantly
2 Sastre does OK
3 Menchov gains more than 1,06 on Kohl
4 Kohl loses less than three minutes on everyone and beats Frank
5 F Schleck beats Valverde by 4 minutes
6 Valverde beats Vande Velde by a minute
7 Sanchez beats everyone below him
8 Vande Velde loses a bit more than a minute on Valverde and Sanchez
9 Kirchen easily takes a minute on Valjevec and Efimkin
10 A Schleck gains two minutes on Valjevec and Efimkin
11 Kreuziger same except for less than a minute faster than Andy.

After 36km of racing in stage 20, Wim Vansevenant has lost 4’27" to the best time so far (posted by Riblon of the AG2R team). The Belgian is thus back in the last place of the general classification and, if he doesn’t finish outside the time limit in today’s stage, he will become the first rider to claim the Lanterne Rouge three times at the Tour de France.
'At least I could set another record, three times the ’Lanterne Rouge’

Cancellara 43" Faster Than Millar!
Cancellara’s time at the 18km mark is 21’30" - 43" better than what David Millar was able to do at the first check.

No way Yates is going to turn up, on ESUK, with Gusev getting the Astana boot. There's only so much hypocracy that man can dish out.
Lucky for the rest that Cancellara is knackered from all his GC work.

Mostly guesswork based on last year's 55km TT in Stage 20...I noticed that Cadel had a time of 1:04-something...Figured with 1.5 lesskm on a similar type TT, + knowing he can win, he can keep it in the low 1:02's...
Cancellara already 1 minute slower than I projected..Not sure if this course is tougher than I figured or he wasn't his best.

I'm with Analog Eurosport through their German broadcast.
The Teletex still works and in German Language it gives CET.
The same thing, but with Teletex English Language the time given as GMT.
That means the first (CET) then minus 1hour for (BST) British Summer Time
The 2nd (GMT) is Plus 1 hour for BST.
What British Eurosport use only Tuck knows.
Why ESUK ???? is it because the Irish can't get it or something.
Go on I dare you.

They fight for bonus seconds along the way. If they are still tied I think it comes down to finishing order. I think Cadel beats Carlos in a sprint. Don't see it being that close after today though.

Game, set and match to Carlos.
Frankie is obviously missing his dad's re-charge.
Evans is always likely to throw in a bum ITT, just not when the stakes are so high. Seems all the CSC tempo riding has taken a toll of his legs.
Bernie Kohl riding the ITT of his life. Deserves that podium slot.

Better team? like Tinkov Allstars?
btw Sastre deserved it for having the guts to go at the base of L'Alpe. He's done nothing stupid the rest of the Tour.
Evans was controlled/attacked throughout the mountains, and has nothing left to give.
Menchov was a plonker in the first week, and needs to get some balls in downhills.
CVV & Kohl were a surprise - both did very well considering their circumstances
Cant say that Riis is a crap DS now... he and CSC shepherded Sastre throughout 2.5 weeks of racing, and he unleashed hell on L'alpe.

The good thing about it is, no one can say Sastre turned in a phenomenal trial. (like somebody did, last year )
Rather, it was Cadel who couldn't quite deliver the goods. He'll be more disappointed by his own performance, I suspect.
Finally, after all these years, Bartali has been vindicated!
