Taxc Fortius

Happy new year to you all.

I must have been a very good boy in 2010 as Ms Santa got me the Taxc Fortius. Nice  Wink

We spent all of yesterday trying to set it up though. I fear today might be another such (wasted) day. We have looked on the tacx forum for info, and even though we can find some, we haven't been able to solve other issues we have! I am hoping maybe one of you guys can assist?

We installed it onto an old laptop but we are having problems using it:

1. The software doesn't recognise the motor brake. Even though it has picked up the model number/date as it says at the bottom "unable to connect to". The software we have is v3.00 (though now upgraded to v3.01).

2. I finally managed to create a new user account for me after upgrading to v3.01 software. We tried setting up one for Ms G and even though she keeps selecting that she is a female rider and saves the selection, it reverts back to male.

3. We cannot seem to run the demo Real Life Video. It seems to show all the statistics at the bottom, but no video/pictures shows. It keeps saying "Searching...".

We do not have the old laptop connected to the internet as it is a rather old laptop (and the wireless card doesn't work) and also we only intend to run real life videos on it (which do not need the internet). We only have an Apple Mac in the house, and I know that people have been able to run the software on it after installing other stuff on the Mac, but we thought we would leave the Mac away for this - but I am now thinking whether it be more sensible to figure out how to upload the software on that instead (just because it is a faster machine and it is connected to the internet wireless at home). We got rid of our desktop computer a year ago, which is a shame... I fear though that the problems we are having are with the software rather than the old laptop that the software is on...

My mate who has the Bushido came over yesterday to give us a hand but just couldn't get us any further.

Ok my friend.  Qu. 2 and 3 are beyond me, but I may be able to help with Qu.1.  My guess is that the wiring in the gizmo that plugs into the back of the brake is loose - a common problem but easily fixed. There are some instructions on the website ... I'll search them out.

You can download an instruction sheet here (sorry for the pop-ups as this is a free site):

There seems to be a few bugs in TTS3 (I'm still running TTS2 - if it aint broke don't fix it ...) http://forum.tacx.com/viewtopic.p...s=0&postorder=asc&start=0  Is your problem Number 18?  Looks like a fix is in version 3.02?
Bartali

Not sure it helps ....

See you lot will get fancy, my cheap basic one,

1. Remove from box,
2. Change expensive Titanium rear QR for cheap nasty steel job
3. Move wee computer sensor from front to rear wheel
4. Add bike to turbo.....GO

Realise rapidly that trying to cycle in that downhill position is dodgy...

Wait for postie to deliver the riser block that's been hiding in a warehouse for four weeks........  Wink

Hope you get your problems sorted Guiness

Take front tyre off, jack up front wheel on a tool box, with a soft piece of wood between the two. Rim soon embeds in wood, giving a nice, stable ride. This set up made me the rider I was last year, so maybe not a ringing endorsement of the technology!

Talking of turbos, I dismantled my Minoura jobbie last night to see if there was an explanation for the ease with which I could spin at 110rpm other than me having received Wiggo's lungs for Christmas. Turned out there was - there was an adjuster to tighten/loosen a big rubber band in the innards, and after tightening it, I was back to grinding away at 65rpm, wishing the Marmotte was a basket-weaving competition.

Very surprised I reassembled the Minoura without having any components left over. Normally, my home engineering projects result in the creating of matter (in the form of bolts, springs and grub screws) from nothing. Smile

Ms G and I got this going - finally - TODAY! After endless communication with the guys at Taxc Support and changing computers three times  Shocked we can use it. Slapshot - I'm sticking to a cheap basic one next time too.
Bartali

Do you like it though?  Have you got any RLV?  Endless fun with thiose in the bike cave ...
Guiness

Given the amount of time and money Ms G spent on this thing, I better love it!! Yup, I do. Haven't used it fully (yet) as we have been braving the elements at the weekend rather than staying indoors. Yup got RLVs.
Bartali

Guiness - Picking up on your 'racing weight' thread, if you are looking for benchmarks, then pop in a RLV and have a go at a climb ... assuming you have one of the 'mountain' RLVs.

I rode the Telegraphe (12km) yesterday in 49 minutes at an average of 3.2W per kg.

That's not a million miles away from where I was last summer, so while its no good for real racing, its respectable enough to get around a hilly sportive without too much embarrassment.
