Stage 19 TdF: Sat, Jul 21st: 3 Bonneval - Chartres 54km

Rather Flattish Terrain

The final round before the finish in Paris. What will come out of this 53.5 km time trial on rather flattish terrain, except the first part on the rolling hills of the Perche region? Personally, I expect gaps of two to three minutes between leaders. Three weeks into the race, 53.5 km are a long way to go in a time trial. This also holds true for the yellow jersey, who will probably come behind specialists such as Martin or Cancellara. Think of the Pauillac time trial in 2010, when Cancellara took the win on a similar course and Menchov, the freshest of all the leaders, propelled himself onto the final podium.

Nice skin suit for Voeckler.

Guess this is a day when many people rest.  I can see why.

Nolte

Boogerd_Fan

classic TJVG.. starts fast ends burnt out.

Wiggo has it in the bag by a country mile.

interesting race in the lower order of the top 10 with Evans losing minutes.
Nolte

pinot retains top 10 place by about 40 seconds.

The VeloNews interview with Basso is doing the rounds in the Clinic, as he said the same thing, too.
Irony or what?
Lulu is clearly fed up of just losing out to them..........3 times in the last week!

Having said that, given his awful first 10 days, his second half of the race has been........."unbelievable".

Seriously, is it such a surprise that Wiggins wins this flat ITT?

Michael Hutchinson, who should know a thing or two about time trialing, forecast a winning time of 64, or 63 minutes.
So, clearly a result in the ball park of the real world.
Bartali

Not at all Huw.  He rode as expected I think ... very much his playground today.
Bartali

Zubeldia into 6th.  Another old(er) man rolling the clock back ......
Boogerd_Fan

I can see Zubeldia popping up as a bit of a surprise.. but then the route is slightly easier than recent years when he's been Top 20-30 at best.

I don't think the course had much to do with it. He was free to ride for himself, something he hasn't been able to do for years, and he showed he can still ride near his previous level.
