Some unburdening

so as people who have seen the lbl fp thread will know, i've had some laptop trouble again but sadly this is not the only problems i have had in the recent

1: Laptop

my personal laptop hard drive is f-to-the-d. luckily still under warranty but won't have the new hard drive until tuesday and then installation and updating of the system needs to be done and that's not great. i had e-m,ailed the problem i had on tuesday to the company i bought it from, no response. i then rang on thursday and when whoever i dealt with was forwarding me, they forwarded me to a number which wasn't opened. the automated message told me this before disconnecting. thankfully i talked to someone helpful today and he sorted me out.My laptop was out since last weekend. this brings me to something that coincidentally i also discovered. i'm not saying they caused the problem but i am alluding to it

2. Mice
my personal sanctuary was invaded by a mouse. i discovered this when it jumped onto the table where my stereo is on sunday. am i saying the mouse broke my laptop? no. I am alluding to it but. Anyway after 5 days of being afraid of faling asleep/entering my room/waking up due to seeing a mouse, we finally caught the ******* on friday morning.

i can't sayt taking another soul is happy but atleast when it died, it did not split into two and a baby mouse inside it. this is just the big problem with the karl pilkington theory as espoused on the ricky gervais show last night shown on channel 4. if that happens for humans, then wouldn't it also happen for animals. therefore you could nevger get rid of rats and mice and beetles and cockroaches.

3. Social

I was due to go to Dan Le Sac v Scroobius Pip in Dublin tonight. Had a ticket (show is now sold out) but then a person i went to college with, texts me to check out facebook as she is organising a reunion for that night, tonight. I, then get a text last night, telling me that it's been cancelled and instead it will be next saturday night, not tonight as originally planned.

the sad thing is that i gave my ticket to another guy so that's thrown my weekend out.
I'm really not a social creature (my general reply to the question " where do i find time for music, gigs, cycling, work and books" is that "i have no interest in normal young adult activities Very Happy) but i was looking forward to it

4.professional

work has just been more stressful lately then usual but i won't go into that

but hey i'm young, these are just blips, annoying little blips and as dissapointing as they are, it feels good to do some unburdening

5. Procycling
I have noticed that the issue of procycling magazine i recieved from my subscription on thursday was nmot the issue i was waiting for. This dawned on me today when i saw the letters page and a guy referring to a Johnny Bellis interview i had no recollection of reading. this is the second time in the last 6 months an issue has gone astray. the previous issue being the December 2009 issue

on the positive side, only 2 days after publication i recieved the new issue which is great

6. bike puncture
could not use my usually method to destress today as my bicycle had a punctured wheel and only noticed today

This'll be an odd one, but anyway....

Going ot a conference in June at which Jim Gamble of CEOP will be speaking. Deeply suspicious of him re: unconditional backing for the McCanns but then started looking at his Operation Ore/NI special forces background and decided I really don't want to be in the same room as a man with so much blood on his hands, so many lives destroyed, so many children damaged in the name of 'child protection'.

Sorry, this has been really troubling me - of course I will attend and be professional and not raise issues of identity theft and child exploitation but you know when you have to be in a room with someone you have no desire to be in a room with?

So, Nolte, thanks for starting this thread - nice to have a place to unburden Wink

Never heard of this guy until you mentioned him.  Such an odd background, with the anti-terrorism and NI then Child Exploitation.  I can see your dilemma.  Maybe you could invent one question that would give him the idea that there are people who watch him and know his history.  Nicely phrased and coolly delivered.  Maybe.

Guys like him are the kind of person it would be good to sit down with for half an hour, all alone, and just ask him to explain, to elaborate on how he sees the connections between bits of his work.  Just listening, not arguing, as he has heard it all most likely.  Maybe an intelligent guy and someone who has some good stories and has had some hard times.  But not someone you would want to work with or maybe even listen to speak about child abuse.
bianchigirl

wise words, FF - I'm sure I'll simply do my job and keep my mouth shut when it comes to it. Just that the more I work on e-safety issues, the less convinced I am that the great child protection industry is protecting kids from what really bothers them - instead there's this endless emphasis on the paedo moral panic and I find it really troubling when young people are far more concerned about cyberbullying and are generally savvy enough to know when someone online is a perv. Did you know, for example, that - off the back of Operation Ore - a 'child' for the purposes of child pornography is 18? Which means that a YP aged 17 caught sexting (sending naked or partially clothed images of themselves) to their gf or bf, for example, even though they can legally be having sex with each other could be prosecuted for making child pornography and put on the sex offenders register. Again, how that helps to give YP a healthy attitude towards sex or protect them in any way beats me.

Apologies for ranting. Nolte, hope life is looking better for you?

well BG, new week so everything is fresh and nothing has gone wrong in the first 13 hours of it so far.

the end of yesterday not so

- discovered another puncture after mending the first puncture

Heyt Bg,

I remember in the early days of the internet, whilst looking at porn, I occasionally came across child porn and was frustrated to say the least that there was no facility for the police to deal with me reporting what I'd found - I had to contact interpol! Thankfully the internet seems to be either much better policed these days or the paeds have gone underground.

Unburdening - I was disappointed to the max when I found out we won't be needing a gibbet for our hung parliament.

I'm not being judgemental here, but maybe this isn't quite the type of unburdening envisaged!

There has been a bit of trouble with Cardinals and the like recently.  Not that I would EVER be judgemental, but those guys are creeps.  Not OUR Cardinal surely.  Embarassed

I said I reported some illegal and obscene images to the police that I had the misfortune to come across whilst looking at pornography - what exactly are you getting at with these posts? Question Mad

Cardinal,

In my social circle, if you start off an anecdote along the lines of "I was surfing porn on the internet the other day when..." then you'll probably not get offered a drink at the next "round" or invited back. At least not when the Ladies are present. Smile

It's not just football of "healthy, red-blooded male activities" that the Ladies don't always approve of.

I should have chopped the "child" references from my quote as that wasn't my point, and I certainly wasn't implying anything in that respect.
cardinal guzman

Ah, I don't know any men and only a few women who don't look at porn. People have a lot of hangups - talking about porn won't harm even the most delicate of sensibilities, though I suppose fear of a dangerously misconstrued comment may deter some - seems it's easily done.
SlowRower

Maybe I've led a sheltered existence and dinner parties the length and breadth of the country vibrate to lively discussions about the latest porno offerings on the internet. It would make an interesting change from Boden fashions and the prodigious achievement of respective offspring, I suppose. Smile

on that note, i had this invite on my facebook page today

Quote:
Event: Barrys Birthday BBQ
What: Erotic Party

alas, thankfully/sadly i won't be able to attend this party as it clashes with the start of the giro d'italia Smile

Cardinal,
I don't look for porno.  I think it is sad, guys who look for porno.  I don't know anyone who talks to me about looking for porno, although I am sure some do.  That's what I meant.  I meant I think it is sad to look for and find and use porno.  Voila.  No big deal.  I know video games are huge, I don't play them.  I don't pay for them, I don't look or them.  No big deal.  I am sure that men who play video games and use porno are way in the majority.  I am in the minority.  That is what I meant.  What is it that is hard to understand?  So;e people do some things, others don't.
cardinal guzman

ok.

Hey cardinal - You've opened a can of worms here ... Wink
maffy
